Liberal Arts Colleges?

I'm looking to apply to a few smaller liberal arts colleges in addition to CSUs and UCs. My GPA is 3.9, and I got a 1690 on the SATs (not the best, I know.) I'm looking to major in either something English or Journalism related. I don't really want to be in a big city, so something outside of a big city or located in a smaller town would be ideal. I'm looking for colleges back east or in the south, but any other locations are worth a look. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Are you a senior? What is your financial situation? Do you have any hooks (minority, athletic, specific strong talent)? Also, what was your specific SAT breakdown?

Elizabethtown College
Susquehanna University (like an lac)
birmingham southern college

This CTCL LAC link gets posted from time to time; I don’t think it could ever be posted too much! This is a great list for you to to start with. Good luck!

A few more questions:

 1. What state are you from? Some states have public LACs that are bargains.
 2. What can you afford? Are you going to need a lot of financial aid?
 3. How does that SAT break down? Some schools don’t look at writing.
 4. Are you male or female?

Seems like the OP is in California if applying to UCs and CSUs.

Here is the COPLAC list:

Sonoma State is a CSU with CSU in-state cost for California residents.

Some of the others have relatively low out-of-state costs like Truman State, Minnesota - Morris, UNC - Asheville, SUNY - Geneseo, and perhaps others.

I agree with beantowngirl, there are some really good schools who are test-optional too. For example, Bates and Bowdoin if you want really competitive, or other schools like maybe Furman? (keep in mind these are all lac’s) anyway, good luck!
