Liberal Arts Curriculum?

When applying as a transfer, colleges say they want to see a well rounded liberal arts curriculum. Well, Im not quite sure what this is! Currently, Im taking philosophy, art history, business calc, intro. to law, and microeconomics. Im not taking freshmen english or a science because I earned credits for these classes. Actually, I didnt earn credits for freshmen english but the college that Im at placed me out of the 1st semester of english because of my SAT score. So, does the lack of english or science not make my curriculum well rounded? Hopefully its not a big deal because I wasnt looking to take the easy way out or anything. These are just the classes I ended up with. So, anyone?

Bumpppppppppppppppppppp!

wow I cant believe I still havent gotten a response this is rare for CC!

A liberal arts curriculum generally refers to courses that you would take at a liberal arts college (for example) and that would easily transfer to other colleges. Of the classes you've listed, Art History is iffy (as to whether it would transfer or be considered a basic liberal arts course) and Intro to Law is definitely not a liberal arts course. Like you've said, liberal arts courses refer to Social Science, Science, Mathematics, and English courses...correct me if I'm forgetting anything. Generally courses that fall into those areas will transfer easily, which is why many colleges want transfers to take a liberal arts curriculum at their original college.

no offense Brand....but how can I take these "classes" if I have credit for most of them already (20 credits).....will this hurt my chances?

BTW What is up with this transfer board it is totally not active.

yeah I know what you mean...you've already received credit for many of those. I don't know the answer to your question - the only way I can help ya is by telling you what "liberal arts courses" refers to and letting you know that two of those classes aren't necessarily going to fit into that category. But hey, I'm taking Accounting I/II as they are required at several schools and those are not liberal arts courses...the colleges that don't require them suggested that I don't take them (or just said I don't really need them). It's not a bad thing that I've taken them b/c I need them for Stern/McCombs, but other schools that don't want those classes (Chicago/Wesleyan) will likely not accept them. Just make sure that you're not taking a ton of business classes or whatever else it could be - pre-professional classes won't transfer easily. If Intro to B-law and Art History are the only courses you've taken that don't really fall into the liberal arts category, you should be fine.

And this transfer board seems a bit slow lately...not in people starting up threads, which is happening alot, but in response activity. Still, it's a lot more active than anywhere else I've found.
