Liberal Arts Majors: a prospective undergrad

I plan to pursue a career in law, however, I can pursue any course of study as an undergrad. My interests lie in English, Economics, Philosophy...maybe History as majors. Secondarily, I want to continue music and or start French. Anyway, please offer your perspectives on my major interests.

Thank you

For a career in law, the majority of humanities or social sciences majors will be just fine. Just make sure you take classes in a variety of humanities/soc sci areas during college to be well rounded. Other than that just pick whichever major interests you most.

Are you interested in a core curriculum? Definitely check out Chicago, Columbia, St. John's College Annapolis/Santa Fe, Reed, Ursinus, and Thomas More College for the Liberal Arts (possibly others?) for different options in curricula inspired by Great Books.

The advantage to going to a school with an extensive core (the most popular options are Chicago and Columbia, and Reed's Hum 110 class fits too) is that you will not only get an intellectual tasting menu, but you'll be doing it alongside your peers. Columbia and Reed's core classes are slightly more standardized than Chicago's, but the feeling that everybody around you is reading what you're reading and can discuss it with you, even if they're not in your class, is terrific.
