Liberal Arts School

Why isnt U Chicago usually not considered a liberl arts school?

As far as I know, UChicago is a research university with a liberal arts college like undegraduate "College".

Most LACs don't have graduate school, while there are two thirds of UChicago students who pursue an advanced degree. Somebody who knows more about UChicago correct me if necesssary.

That's the usual distinction, but the College, in my opinion, is an exemplar of the liberal arts tradition.

I think the College is considered a liberal arts university/college

Yes, in the general sense, but never in the sense that someone uses when they say "liberal arts college." For example, I don't think Chicago is ever discussed in the threads about "liberal arts colleges." This usage might be specific to US or North America, I don't know.

I'm not sure this is all bad, since liberal arts college are oftened considered "soft," especially with respect to the physical sciences.

right, well instead of having just a "College" (like LACs), Chitown is also a research/delicious university

hehe delicious
