Liberal Arts Transfer Question

When looking at transfer guides I'm a bit confused because for some schools like engineering or natural sciences it s says that you need 2 yrs of foreign language from high school. Does this apply for Liberal Arts majors? Do Liberal Arts students have to take foreign language in college before or after transferring? If so, can credit be taken from high school language?

the two year requirement is usually what is required for most texas high schools in order for seniors to graduate. therefore, the college expects you to have it. at least that was the case in my school.

liberal arts majors have to take 2 years of a foreign language as a requirement to get the degree.

you cannot get credit from high school unless you took the ap test and got credit, i believe.

That makes sense, thanks. Psychology majors only need one year as opposed to two years for other liberal arts majors?

Do you think they would take into account the school I am currently attending didn’t require I take any foreign language courses? I’m going to take 60+ hrs at UT if I get accepted so would they be just say I have to take it there?

They have a .pdf sheet for that shows what is required for graduation for every major in the college of liberal arts here.

You can also CLEP out of your language requirement during orientation. There are several placement tests that you have the option to take during this period, and if you score high enough you can earn extra credits. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, and CLEPed my entire language requirement during orientation. (SPN 506, 507, both 316s)
