I guess you could say I'm not like the stereotypical "business student." I'm a priveledged white male, yes, but I am also a liberal, gay Unitarian Universalist with an open mind and a desire to meet people that don't all fit the "conservative businessman mold." I want to major in Marketing, the sort of "other business major." Here's what I've got so far:

UT-Austin
SMU (parents went here)
Boston U
American
USC
NYU
WUSTL
UNC-CH

I have a 3.95 UW GPA and a 33 ACT Composite. If I am in the Business school at an otherwise liberal institution (i.e. NYU), am I going to be surrounded by the businessman type all the time or does the general feel of the school trickle into all aspects of the university? Any ideas on other schools, thoughts, or opinions are helpful!

You should also look at Wharton at Penn because Penn as a whole is a very liberal school (although I'm sure Wharton students as a whole are more conservative than the general Penn population although I have no real evidence of this). Penn also has one of the biggest LGBT centers in the nation and Philly is an extremely gay friendly city (check out www.phillypride.org - this weekend is OutFest in the Gayborhood).

Your academic life might reside more in Wharton, but almost 50% of your classes will be outside of Wharton and you live with people from all of the undergraduate schools and will make friends and join clubs with people from all 4 schools so you should think of yourself more as a Penn student than a Wharton student.

You have a strog GPA and ACT so it can't hurt to apply to Wharton.

You might consider the econ/social science route at a competitive LAC. One in a major metro would give some good internship and job #1 opportunities, and several in the northeast are popular with recruiters (Amherst, Williams, Colgate etc.)

Thanks alot - ever since receiving my ACT scores, Wharton has kind of drifted into the back of my mind again...I think I might apply RD.

And thanks for the advice, but I am a big-city-lots of students kinda person, and all the LACs I would be interested in are in the middle of nowhere (Colgate) or are in cities I don't want to live in (Amherst). Now, if you find an Amherst College in Boston or LA, let me know. Also, I'm pretty sure I want marketing and LACs just don't have that.

You should also look into U Miami. You will probably get offered lots of Merit aid there and the great social life for "gay, Unitarian Universalists" is well documented.
