warblers, these colleges seem good, but not of these seem to be easy matches/safeties for him. was wondering if you could recommend easy matches/safeties

Hiram would be an easy match/safety

These are safeties/easy matches. There's plenty more, but these are what I could think of.

Albion
Alfred
Arcadia (great study abroad)
Berry (spectacular campus)
Drew
Hamline
Hiram
Lycoming
Susquehanna
Wittenberg (recently updated science facilities)

Thanks will take a look at it

The University of New Hampshire is quite pricey for non-residents.

bump, I want to narrow it to these states:

New York
New Jersey
CT
Mass.

bump bump bump

Check out this:
Click on "faculty" aand look at the profs earned PhD's from Dartmouth, Wisconson, etc and the department is small. I can tell you from experience that undergrad research is encouraged and I think you can even get an accelerated BS/MS degree. The chemistry program there is very well respected and if you live in NY, you can't beat the price.

<a href="http://www.oswego.edu/academics/colleges_and_departments/departments/chemistry/about_us/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.oswego.edu/academics/colleges_and_departments/departments/chemistry/about_us/index.html</a></p>

SUNY Geneseo would also be a good match. If your friend wants to look only in those states, that's unfortunate because he will really be limiting his options. However, assuming that he is deadset on doing so, I'd add these schools to those already mentioned for matches and possible safeties: Quinnipiac, Drew, Clark, Hobart & William Smith, Rochester Institute of Technology, Worcester Polytech Institute, Clarkson University, Alfred University, and the College of New Jersey. If he is willing to add Pennsylvania, he could add Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, Ursinus, Juniata, Washington & Lee and possibly Allegheny.
