So I was recently accepted into the Liberal Studies: Core Program at NYU and I soon after received my financial aid package and saw that I received a huge Liberal Studies scholarship. Although I was happy, this raised a few questions with me and my parents. If anyone can clarify, it'd be much appreciated.

If I were to transfer into the College of Arts and Sciences after two years in the Core Program, does the liberal studies scholarship carry over (assuming I maintain a relatively high GPA)? If not, is there a chance for other scholarships and forms of financial aid (ie. the CAS scholarship)? Also, is it possible to finish the pre-med or pre-dental track within four years while in the Liberal Studies program for the first two years?

Thanks! And congratulations to all you other people out there who got accepted into NYU!

I think someone else got in touch with the financial aid office about whether the award was for all four years, and they said yes.

Regarding pre-health, it is possible, it just requires some careful planning, and you won’t be able to start taking classes in your major (unless you choose a science major) until after you finish LSP. You would take gen chem 1 & 2 as your non LSP classes freshman year, and then organic 1 & 2 and either physics 1 & 2 or gen bio 1 & 2 as your non-LSP classes during your sophomore year. You would have to do either physics or bio, whichever one you don’t take during sophomore year during your junior year (or senior year if you plan on taking a gap year before going to grad school)

Thanks for clarifying! I guess that means I can feel safe to put down my deposit now. I was worried so much about money but I feel a lot more secure now knowing that I at least have a chance at keeping the scholarship for all four years.

Yeah, I would double check that to be absolutely sure, but you should be good!
