It seems that every time I read a Brown post about campus “liberalism”, at least a few of the responses make reference to homosexuality. It seems that homosexuality is the issue by which Brown interprets liberalism. How prevalent is the gay scene at Brown? I have read that there is a big gay prom at Brown. Is there a high gay profile on the Brown campus? Is Brown the gay Ivy?

gay Ivy?! well, I know Brown's the ivy with the most beautiful people...

There are several threads about liberalism on this board including this one:

That should explain what it means to be liberal at Brown. I'll answer the homosexuality question, but I'd rather do it in there (let's try and keep one thread with related questions so that anyone wondering about Brown's liberalism can search and find a single informative thread).

How "prevalent" is the gay scene? Well, the Queer Alliance is a big organization with lots of smaller groups under it, and they're pretty active on campus. Lots of people are out (especially guys), and it's generally accepted to be gay on campus. There is a lot of discussion about issues such as same-sex marriages, gender-neutral bathrooms, etc (with varying opinions).

Acceptance / prevalence of homosexuality is certainly not the primary way to measure Brown's liberalism, but I'd say it's a helpful indicator.
