Liberalism (or lack there of) at UVA.

tenniscraze- I don't understand how you generalize about UVA students in a negative way (referring to them as close-minded conservatives who are your stereotypical frat boy idiots) and at the same time using their voting as an argument for why college policy should be changed. Maybe that 26% of students who actually voted in support of raising wages was comprised of those idiotic frat boys who were half drunk and completely uneducated about the issue? If you think at least a quarter of the student population is comprised of these sorts of individuals, perhaps they're the morons who are responsible for that statistic? Either UVA students are, by and large, to be trusted with voting for campus referendums, or they're selfish jerks.

No, then they must be hypocrites.

U! V! A!
Go! Hoos! Go!

I need to revive tenniscraze's school spirit/pride.

College students...who are hypocrites?? NO WAY! But we totally have to base University policy on their knowledge and beliefs anyway!

I don't know about you, but I think far left liberalism is almost as sickening as far right conservatism.

Hahaha...some people say UVa kids are apathetic, but your debating proves that many (well, at least you all) aren't.

(sigh)

When I'm gone for a while, I find myself missing you guys. CC is like a drug.

Oh, don't be too hard on Tenniscraze. He's really a nice guy when you get to know him.

cavalier302, conservative extrordinare, so what about the frats? Frats just perpetuate close-minded conservatism and conformity combined with rich white kid snobbery. Sounds like you belong. Which frat are you in?

Sounds like you're the one to talk about closed-mindedness. And if you have a problem with white people, f*** you.

BTW, I'm in the one that hates minorities, is full of rich, well-dressed white guys and likes to drink cheap beer. Oh, and if you come out to mad bowl on friday nights my house is the one that beams an image of George Allen, George Bush and Ronald Reagan into the sky, sort of like the Bat-Signal, 'cept we call it the Frat-Signal.

i thought you were in serp cav, not kappa sig...

;-)

serp? no...

LOL

That's Untilted who is in serp

Commentator Laura Ingraham went to U VA law - nice to see the undergrad described as conservative too

I love when people use the term "close-minded" as a generalization. It's so hypocritical it makes me laugh.

Personally, I don't see how being rich and white is an insult. Maybe I need more racism and classism in my life.

frat signal, f*** yeah.

Well I certainly enjoyed the liberal/conservative chit chat, but the reality is that Rachel will not be able to do Early Decision at UVA per her original post as UVA is now PC like Harvard, Princeton etc and has eliminated ED. That decison should help Rachel on whether UVA is liberal enough for her at least in the Administration.

Students applying for Fall 2007 admission are still eligible for Early Decision. It won't be eliminated until the following year. (She said she was an incoming senior)

I should have read the posting by Dean J on this board: "The decision, which will apply to those entering the university in the fall of 2008, was made to level the playing field for low-income students, who rarely apply for early decision, U.Va. President John T. Casteen III said." rather than the Washington Post article.

So Rachel can get the best of both worlds: Early Decision and a stress free Winter and Spring in her Senior year plus admission to a University where the governing administration is responsive to liberal concerns. Plus she can provide solidarity and numbers for her self proclaimed "leftist" ideas and fight for the living wage etc.

DISCLAIMER: I am a big UVA fan as a parent of a freshman and think having a politically diverse student body of both conservative and liberals is ideal and enhances both UVA and its students So Rachel should take my comments with a grain or two of salt as what is good for UVA may not be the very best for her personally.
