^ I just posted that as an example of an ugly library. There’s no arguing taste :)

Schmaltz, hope you are not a blue fan…@_@" Those photos were taken a few months ago when the library were still undergoing renovation similar to THIS a few months back! :P

No, you have to walk a block. So I guess you can as that’s about as close as you could park a car. It’s just the other side of the Union which you can get to by boat–or rent a boat.

Sparkeye, yeah, I live about 20 min. from Ann Arbor, but my dislike for Ohio and OSU is pretty mild compared to the way you folks think of Michiganders. The guys on the two local radio sports talk shows can talk forever about the crappy treatment they get when they go to Columbus to cover Ohio State games. One guy who’s a sideline reporter for the radio coverage said that he set his Michigan jacket down near the wall during the game, and when he went to put it on, he noticed that the people sitting in the first row had spit on his jacket a zillion times. There are also endless stories about cars with Michigan license plates getting vandalized when they park near the OSU stadium for games there.

I always wondered why OSU folks don’t get some class by reading a book on manners or etiquette. Now I know: y’all don’t HAVE any books. Which kind of makes sense…why would you have BOOKS if you can’t READ?

People from Michigan don’t need a roadmap when they go to Columbus. They just go south until they smell it, and then east until they step in it.

Wisconsin has so many cool things because it’s right on two lakes. More colleges should have been built next to lakes.

Yup, the campus setting is what makes it a great campus The buildings range from great to real eyesores and lack a standard style some like to see in a campus. But you just look at the water and forget about the buildings you don’t like. PLus having a large park right on campus makes for a nice place to get away and enjoy the view of downtown and the campus.

Not the prettiest library (but not bad, either) is the Carleton College library. If I recall correctly it was named one of the top college libraries last year. And where else do librarians have their own trading cards?

Great pictures!

I can’t say I’m a fan of Bobst at NYU, though. I’d get acrophobia every time I visited. :(

“I’d get acrophobia every time I visited”

Why, they have a lot of spiders?

Acrophobia is a fear of heights (think acrobatics).

You’re thinking of arachnophobia, Schmaltz.

It was a joke.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Fisher Fine Arts Library at UPenn…

I’m not the biggest fan of WUSTL’s Olin Library during the day, but at night it looks really cool: http://www.student-subway.com/media/image-gallery/image_database/200920085833.jpg</a>.</p>

Other notables include the Busch Law Library (http://farm3.static.■■■■■■■■■■/2346/2231727459_5d35b46c99.jpg?v=0</a>) and my personal favorite, the cozy East Asian Library (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/EastAsianLibraryWUSTL.JPG</a>).

In terms of plain awesome buildings, Pitt’s Cathedral of Learning isn’t a library itself (though it does contain at least one), but it’s incredible.

Thanks Barrons. I knew you’d catch it.

That Olin library looks like a gigantic air conditioner.

Schmaltz, sorry for the late reply! I’ve been busy…

Anyways, I hear you! Even though you are barking at the wrong tree!!! I went to high school in Livonia, Michigan (also ~20+ mins drive away from AA) and attended MSU back in the mid-90s, graduated with LBS Physiology degree '98 and went on to tOSU for Molecular Genetics study before attending Med School in the East coast. Ok, enough of my intro on public forum.

oh well, in all fairness, didn’t Mike Hart called MSU the little brother that got beat? Wasn’t he also the one who enjoyed talking smacks against the buckeyes throughout his tenure at Michigan? It’s no secret that Michigan with its winniest college football I-A percentage and overall winning records against the in-state rival Spartans and intra-state rival Buckeyes have obtained the repuation of being arrogrant in the eyes of MSU/OSU fans! In truth, it is unfortunately to say that Michigan’s elitism mentality of we are better than you both in academics and in sports over the century had long transformed its students/fans/alumni into Snobs. You don’t have to believe my perception, just ask other Big Ten fans in the conference, such as the Nittany Lions, Golden Gophers or the Badgers! :P

The fact of the matter is that no one (fan) is perfect!!! Everything happens for a reason!! Columbus is indeed a very ‘spirited’ place in the midwest in terms of rooting for the beloved buckeyes. Unlike Detroit, where Professional leagues such as the Tigers, the Lions, the Piston and the Red Wings still carry some weights; Columbus, in essense, is still pretty much a Buckeye football only type of city. One can’t really foul the fact that buckeye fans take UM/OSU rivalry to another level since that is all that they’ve got (In spite the ‘recent’ development of professional leagues such as the Crew soccer & the Blue Jacket in hockey). The fact that many of Michigan’s top players (Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard just name a few) do come from the state of Ohio as well as its legendary Coach Bo Schembechler which all add to the enormous frustractions to the buckeye fans as an underdog especially during the Cooper era.

Now, I am not trying to downplay or justify the behaviors of the ‘notorious’ buckeye fans out there! However, I suggest you visit Collegefootballnews - Big Ten Forum more often. Because you will soon find out that there are just as many ‘despicable’ michigan fans out there that in most cases, simlar to tOSU, never attended the school!! Well, as I alluded above, I am the type of fan who bleed green & white as well as scarlet & gray and privileged to have attended both institutions and that part of the state of Michigan is in me. Therefore, whenever Michigan carries the Big Ten flag to the Bowl games, for better or worse, I would root for the blue!! I suggest you go grab a copy of HBO’s documentary on UM/OSU rivalry, and focus on the mutual admiration between Bo and Woody post The Game era. Hopefully one day, you won’t be easily swung by the medias ($ driven) and become a proud Big Ten fan like me for we are truely blessed to have these 2 football powerhouses in the conference! Ok, gotta run… Embrace the rivalry! Peace! :))
