I found a website on Wellesley.com/somethingorother telling me the hours of the libraries during the summer, but I can't seem to find out what the hours of operation are during the school year--can anybody tell me how late the libraries are open?

If it's a school day the Clapp and the Sci-Lib open at 8:15. If it isn't, they open at noon. If it's a school night, they close midnight, if not, it's like 7 something.

I don't know the music and art library hours or the hours for any other specialized departments within Clapp (eg, special collections, archives).

The Astronomy library doesn't have hours. You fill out the card in the book and someone from the Sci-lib comes up every few days to put away returned ones and tell the computer that they are checked out. If you can get in the building then you can get books.

You can access the Science Center 24/7, which means that if you are just looking for a table somewhere to plunk your books or log into a public computer, that's always open.

Some students complain that the libraries are not open 24/7, but keep in mind.
1. They are large student staffed, and students already would rather not work until midnight.
2. You should be on a schedule where you do sleep sometime between midnight and 7:30 because that's what your class schedule (and the REAL world) forces you to do. I say as someone who works until 5:30 am as part of her summer job.

I believe Music and Art run on fairly similar schedules to Clapp and SciLib. If you want into the observatory to check out some Astro books, make sure you know when the building is open. Staff are only available until 4:30 or 5:00pm in Clapp, SciLib, Music, and Art, so go before that if you have any major reference, policy, or lending questions. Student assisants aren't likely to be able to help you with the bigger problems.

Special Collections is open until 4:30, I think, and Archives probably closes around that time, too. Both places are well worth a visit! If you want to see some gorgeous texts, SC is the place, and Archives is right down the hall. Both offices tend to have displays set up outside the doors. Don't be intimidated by the always-locked doors into SC; the doorbell makes it seem much scarier than it really is.

as a humanities major who didn't have classes before 1:30pm last semester, i would love for the library to be open past 12. the "real world" might run on a "normal" schedule, but my day never really started until noon and my sleep/work schedule adjusted accordingly. science classes seem to favor morning lectures but most of my humanities classes (English especially) have always been in the afternoons.
but, just like at any other college, you'll find people that function best going to bed at 11 and getting up at 7 and those who go to bed at 4, find their way to class and spend a good chunk of time napping.
