Near West Campus, is there a library nearby? Where do most Cornellians study? Are there study rooms in dorms? Is the library schedule good?

Uris and Olin are the closest libraries to West Campus. On most days Olin is open from 8-2 am and Uris is open 24 hours M-Th and until 6 (I think) on Friday and Saturday.

Cornell has a lot of libraries and you'll find student scattered among them...but I would say Olin, Uris and even Mann are popular for undergrads. Mann is located on the Ag quad so I didn't go there as often. Although...since I was employed at Uris library I had to show some loyalty :-)

There are PLENTY of places to study on campus. The only time one might have trouble is during finals because then everybody is studying.

Cornell's library system is f-ing amazing. I think there are 22 libraries or something like that. On West Campus, there will be a library in your house.

Beyond that, there are five libraries right on the Arts Quad.

Olin and Uris (the two most popular libraries among undergrads) are around 5-10 min walk away from West. I like to study in the stacks at Olin where it's nice and quiet (as opposed to the 1st floors at Olin and Uris). If I need to study late, I usually go to Duffield.

So we do have an access to all of them? Or do we have to register at each of them for an access? Just curious.

You have access to all of the libraries.

If you plan to stay in Uris after 2 am you'll need to have your Cornell ID card.

I often went to the fine arts library. It was always quiet and the green dragon cafe is in the basement floor.

if the big libraries are crowded, i usually go to catherwood library (ILR) or nestle library (Statler) to study.

Yep, you have access to all the libraries. Also each has its own character. Feel free to share your own thoughts, but my impressions are:
Libe Cafe (Olin): Very social, nice view of the quad, obviously access to coffee and pastries is a must have for studying.
Kroch (Olin): Super ACed, so a good place to cool off in the summer. Lots of underutilized rooms for studying. Very spacious.
AD White Room (Uris): Old-school Ivy League ambiance. Easy to let your eyes wander. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/25/178077159_5bd2ba9780.jpg?v=0
Cafe (Olin): Try the caramel apple cider in the winter. Also sociable. Not as nice as Libe Cafe in Olin.
Fishbowl (Olin): Large round room with broad windows overlooking Libe Slope, hence the name "The Fishbowl." Quieter, and the wide round chairs make it a popular place to sleep.
Upstairs reading room (Olin): Spacious, with spectacular views of Lake Cayuga. Often underutilized too, since it's in a weird spot. You can reach it from the stacks behind the Cafe, or from the second floor of the AD White Room.
Downstairs reading room (Olin): Depressing, spartan, and studious. Instead of fantastic views of the Lake, or broad windows for people watching, you get the judgmental glare of larger-than-life portraits staring down at you. But there are lockers for those hardcore students who are in it for the long haul.
Catherwood Library (ILR): Very professional. Aeron Chairs, large desks, and versatile ambiance--from the quiet study rooms downstairs, to the computer labs, and the comfy chairs overlooking the quad. No cafe, sadly.
Mann Library: Now that renovations are complete, Mann is likely the most modern and utilitarian library. My only complaint is that it's out of the way.

looked at that picture. kinda look very old. i mean, the library is, not the pic.

As an alum, Rendeli's memory must be fading quickly. What he refers to as the Fishbowl is actually the Cocktail Lounge, and what he refers to as the Downstairs Reading Room is actually the Fishbowl. The upstairs reading room is actually the Kinkeldy Room (aka 'the Kinky').

Uris Library Study space

oh Uris...I already miss ringing the obnoxious bell when the upstairs was closing

Oh man - the A.D. White Room is incredible. Old in the good way of making you wonder how much time the craftsmen spent per square foot making all the little details.

Your IQ will jump 5 points just walking in. :)
