Life after electrical engineering school

I’m currently in my fourth year of
EE, and long story short is that I’m
Afriad that instead of learning the
Material I’ve gotten by on just short
Term memorizing. My current GPA is
A 3.1 but for the most part I don’t
Understand the professors lectures all
That much, I instead look at old
Material in the class or turn to
Solutions on the internet for help in
Completing homework and studying
For tests. My question is when I

Graduate, how essential is it that I
Know all the material that I was
Taught in school for when I start
My first engineering job?
Am I just setting myself up for
Failure in the future since I’m
Getting by on memorization?
Or will I learn everything I need to
Know for doing a good job once I start my career?

At what kind of a university can you get by on “memorization”?

Did you not have labs? Group projects?

It’s the number 1 university in my state for engineering. And yea we have labs but they are useless in my opinion. No one ever really understands what to do and the teaching assistants arnt much help either

I think it is important to be able to work with others, ask questions if you don’t know what you are doing, be familiar with the concepts, document what you are doing. There are so many jobs in engineering…you don’t sound like someone who would design circuits…but would you be a quality engineer or a systems engineer or ??
When you are studying EE, you are usually learning a little about a lot of things… most jobs would not have you doing circuit design or physical chip design or digital electronics or communication electronics… you will get a job in one of those areas (that interest you).
