Life after IB?

<p>Most who get into IB last less than four years - either burned out or moved out. What careeres prospects do ex-IB folks have? I often read about ex-IBers moving to VT to run coffee shops and wonder whether it's a bit of a dead-end career.</p>

<p>Working at hedge funds, venture capitalist firms, private equity firms, corporate strategy, corporate development to name a few.
It really couldn’t be any less of a “dead-end” career.</p>

<p>I hope you know that the IB job right after college is only a 2 year gig. Majority are not rehired after 2 years, so the “burned out or moved out” may not be by choice.</p>

<p>I know it’s by design not by choice in many cases. I also know a lot of out-of-work mid-career bankers. PE and Venture are not going to absorb all the ex-Ibankers. So the questions is where do they wind-up in 5-10 years?</p>

<p>Large non-financial firms all have corporate development and corporate strategy divisions that take large numbers of ex-investment bankers.
Others go back to business school.
Others do something completely random such as starting a business, teaching, …</p>
