all the best go 11A

EOD is Explosive Ordnance Disposal. They're the guys you call in Iraq when you find an IED and need it taken care of/neutralized/exploded.

Was EOD formerly a branch of the Special Forces? Maybe I'm thinking of the SEALs or Navy.

No, it was a part of the Ordnance branch.

I saw a documentary segment on EOD .. very good stuff.

anyone know if you can go delta as an officer? I haven't heard of it, but i dont know for sure.

delta? as in SFOD-D? normally you gotta O-3 to do sf stuff.

I'm pretty sure you have to be at least a Captain to get into SF (is that O-3?). I'm not positive though.

i thought some cadets go special forces right out of west point?

No no, definitely not... Can't go SF right out of WP.

what about branching military intelligence? anyone else interested in that? (yall might have been talking about it with the codes and such, but i wouldn't have known haha)

meg

I'm thinking about it. My JROTC Senior Army Instructor was MI and she said that I'd be good in it.

sweet! what did she do?

i thought about it but i dont wanna have to learn another language... thats my cryptonite.

Yeah megbee1119, I've thought about branching intelligence. I would be really good at that sort of stuff. But there aren't any big guns, lol! No, seriously, if things start to really settle down, and it looks like there might be a lull in combat for a few years (like after issues with middle east cool down), I would consider going into intel and help get the rest of you lot ready for the next conflict. It depends upon what happens.

Taffy, why infantry? Combat. If we get into serious combat again, I want to lead troops into battle effectively in order to complete those tasks my country assigns me. Don't get me wrong folks, I'm no grunt, and I'm not you're typical infantry type. My brain is my strongest muscle (hey, I'm not saying I'm some sissy whimp or anything either). In the event of war, I would much rather be an officer on the ground making the battle happen. I want to go into infantry to fight, to lead the fight. So my enthusiasm for infantry exists only because of the prospect of conflict and ultimately combat.

You see what I am saying here? If things look like our military will get a ten year (or something) break from things like Afganistan or Iraq, I would want to dedicate myself to getting things ready. If we are going into a world situation with imminent conflict, I would want to fight. Now this next thing is what is really going to set me apart from the rest of you. I really believe that God knows where best to use me, a lot better than I do. I don't know for sure where I'll end up. I just know I'll end up in the place where I can do the most. I really trust that'll happen.

"I just know I'll end up in the place where I can do the most."

It is so good to find someone who shares my sentiments. I was hoping on infantry followed by med school and an officership in the medical corps. I've already given my reasoning behind this on another thread, though, so I won't bore you all with it.
