Can anyone tell me what life at Blair Academy in New Jersey is like? Like how is the social life? Are the students there, especially girls, snobby or mean? And will they be accepting of a new student that starts during junior year? And how are the dorms, athletics, food and activities? :)

Hi Anna, I just answered a few of your questions on another thread. Please continue to ask away if you have further questions. Glad to answer anything as honestly as I can. If DC were on this board, I’m sure you’d get a lot of enthusiastic endorsement, as DC is a current, very happy student at Blair.

Our family looked at many schools, and I can tell you that one of the most important factors was to find a good community full of great kids and faculty. The Blair kids are truly welcoming of all types and very nice. It is easy, as a new kid, to find friends and feel at home. I’ve especially been struck by the absence of any mean girl culture. The girls all seem very happy and at ease with one another. Lots of pictures at events of kids hugging. No one seems excluded. We questioned even the quiet types when we visited, and the kids truly seemed glad to be there. There are all sorts of kids, from scholarship kids to the uber wealthy, and they all seem to get along. It is not obvious who is who on that scale. Dress is casual, though not sloppy, and DC doesn’t feel any pressure to dress a certain way or wear specific brands. Dorms are spacious and very nice, from what I have seen. I was surprised DC’s room was so big. I responded on most of your other questions in the other post, but on the food - it is fabulous! Really, really good, and accommodating of a variety of dietary needs. There is also the canteen (‘can’, for short) which is a casual gathering place where kids can grab a burger or soda and socialize. You won’t lack for good food at Blair!

Current parents just got a heads-up from Blair. Just posted on their website are three new videos entitled Academics at Blair, Arts at Blair, and Athletics at Blair. They can be found in the admission video section (see link below). These videos capture both the strength of the school’s programs and the spirit of Blair.

@24daffodils thanks so much for the info! I’m also looking at Lawrenceville but sfter reading numerous threads about it, it seems as if everyone just studies and studies and studies. Now I know that that is what you are supposed to do at bs but I would really like to have fun. So Blair is now my top choice! :)

Best of luck to you, Anna, on March 10. I assume you are applying to a decent number of schools, if you are really set on boarding, so you will hopefully have a variety of great choices when acceptances roll in. Then there are revisit days, when you ideally spend some time at 1-3 schools when the pressure to be admitted is now off, and you can make a final decision.
