He got into Georgia Tech for computer engineering, but he was wondering what life there was like. He said he heard the social life there was weak - any thoughts?
Thanks.

Social life at tech is what someone makes it. Of your friend joins Greek life or gets invokved on campus in other ways he will meet a bunch of great people and have a great time. However, if he lets the workload get to him and just stays at his dorm and studies all the time he might end up not liking it. It’s all about balance. I definitely wouldn’t say that social life is weak, but you do have to work a little harder to have a solid social life at tech than at most schools.
Definitely what troutfreak said. But you don’t even need to join a Greek organization to have fun. My first year I got burnt out, solely studied, and hated every second of college. But then I learned how to plan ahead, became better at time management, was able to better balance social life with academics, and now I love the place. The best part of course comes when you hit 21 as there are plenty of amazing clubs and bars right around Tech. Also just a comment about the infamous “girl/guy ratio.” Not only is the gap decreasing each year, but you’ll find that a large portion of the guys (and to be fair a portion of the girls too) tend to get overloaded by work/ are innately introverted so the ratio definitely seems to even out.
OP, this question has been asked a lot lately so just read some recent posts. What others have posted has been my D’s experience. Balance in studies and fun as well as joining things at Tech leads to a great social life and school life.
