Life at TCNJ

This forum needs to get more active! Can anyone speculate on what life at TCNJ would be like? What is there to do?

It would be great if a student could post an ask a current student thread or share something!

If you can ask something more specific, maybe I could answer a few questions for you.

Well if you had to convince someone to go to TCNJ, what would you say? What do you like about it, and does it outweigh what you don’t???

Well, I can’t really say much about how great it is, probably because I’m totally jaded by the end-of-the-semester workload. But it’s a very, very nice and scenic place to be around, particularly during warmer weather. Aside from tuition, I think that’s the most obvious selling point. Also, because the college is smaller, getting around campus is convenient and classes are potentially more intimate.

There’s really not much to do around here, as you’ve probably heard. You’ll need a car to be able to get out and do things. If you do have a car(which freshmen are not allowed to have except for a 2 week period or so), you can go to nearby places such as Princeton, or there’s a mall and tons of restaurants and stores nearby on Route 1. Philly is also close by. On certain nights, there are buses that you can take to go to the movie theater or mall.

Overall, the people are friendly and I’m pretty comfortable here. If you’re looking for crazy nightlife and fast-paced bustling crowds of people, this is definitely not the place, however.

TCNJ has been sooooo great! NO it’s not a suitcase school, I don’t know why people ask that question. I never want to go home and most of my friends stay here every weekend as well. TCNJ does have a lot of “planned” activities for students, i.e., concerts, comedy shows…but there is also an active social life that includes Greeks and athletics. What makes TCNJ so special is that it isn’t in a crazy city but is a close knit community where people feel safe.

The convenience shop type thing they have near Eickhoff…how does that work? I heard you get 6 free dollars a day to spend there or something? I would definitely stock up on soda and candy! I also heard that people have end of the year parties with lots of junk food from their extra meal plan dollars, is that true?

Every weekday between 11:00 (11:30?) and 1:30, you can eat at the Brower Student Center or a few other places and spend up to i think $6.15. Anything over gets deducted from your meal points. I don’t think meal equiv counts for the convenience store, but you could always buy bags of chips from the Student Center.
