Life at the College of Engineering; Engineering to Medical School

I’m interested in the College of Engineering. I want to know previous experiences at the University of Iowa and also recent experiences. I also want to know about the University as a whole such as college life and atmosphere. I am specifically looking into Mechanical Engineering then going into Medical School. Thanks

There are plenty of engineers who intend on applying to medical school. At umich, most people majoring in BME have the intention on going into medical or some other health professional school rather than be an actual engineer.

Most engineering programs (especially if ABET accredited) have a very structured and inflexible curriculum which leaves you with very little room for elective courses. Also, most engineering curricula have little to no overlap between the pre-med requirements, thus there would be a good chance that you may be taking extra semesters. If your school has a BME program, that is probably the best you can get in terms of curriculum overlap.
