??life at UCSD??

Hey you guys! I'm the type of person who likes to enjoy life. If I go to UCSD will my life be all about studying. I mean how is the social life there compared to other UC's. I'm not the partier type ...but I like going out and chillin with friends. So basically i wanna know...will it be fun going to UC San Diego...or will i have no life???

if you go to ucsd you will be stuck on an island. that island is made up of blocks and blocks of company and commercial buildings... hardly any places to go hang out. to make matters even worse, ucsd is located in a very rich neighborhood.

Proton's right and wrong. I actually live right next to UCSD (in the allegedly rich neighbordhood he refers to). La Jolla's a nice place and yeah it is pretty rich...but you also have the beach in walking distance as well as downtown la jolla which is pretty nice. To be honest, UCSD doesn't seem that fun. I don't think it's a dead social life, but it's definitely more dead than the average UC (even the better ones). San Diego itself is a good college city and has a lot to offer.

hint: if you dont wanna pay a bunch of cash, sacrifice the few minute trip to the beach. if youre not from the area, pack your friends if you feel homesick. as for chillin and hanging out, it depends what you wanna do if you catch my drift

San Diego State and USD are sort of nearby UCSD so you can visit if you get bored

life is what you make of it.
if you want to study 24/7 at ucsd, its possible.
but give me a break... ITS A COLLEGE!!! 15K+ of 18+ year olds and you want to believe that there's no social life?! cmon now.
i go to ucsd. there arent any parties on campus seeing how theres no frat row on campus. but if you search, you will without a doubt find something to do.

Thank you everyone for commenting... it helped me a lot!

ucsd is not like being on an island. I go to school across the street from it and while there are a lot of businesses in the area, there's a mall a few blocks away, and lots of places to hang out. There probably is enough to do on most college campuses to occupy your time. San Diego is a real fun place to be if you're over 21, so wait a few years and you will definitely enjoy the bar scene in the Gaslamp district downtown or in PB.

^ ucsd is nothing compared to other schools. ucsd has only one shopping mall nearby but thats about it. and you cannot 'hang out' on company buildings wow how fun is that. ucsd is located in an island of company buildings.

Haha there's actually a lot of malls nearby. Proton where the hell do you live and why you hate san diego so much? The beach is amazing and so is downtown san diego (if you have a good fake) which is only about a 15 to 20 minute drive. UCSD isn't quite U of M but it's not social hell either.

there is a rule of thumb my friends from usd and sdsu told me once: 9 out of 10 girls in san diego are hot, the 10th goes to ucsd. ucsd women tend to be nerdy, motivated, antisocial, and unattractiv...just a fact. and people i know from ucsd tell me that its not bad and its "what you make of it"...which i think is just ish, people say that b/c their school usaully is boring and they really have to get out of their way to have fun....again just a fact

Of course, 'motivated' is a good trait to have; it doesn't really belong in the list of adjectives -with their connotations next to it :)

ucsd is set in a wonderful area (San Diego) but as a college the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. Set in La Jolla, a very pricy neighborhood, there's not a lot of students living in walking distance off campus. On campus space is very limited. Bottom line, it isn't a residential campus (like Cal Poly, UCSB, Davis, etc) and you don't have that sense of community like you do at other schools. Students are apt to live in fun areas like PB (pacific beach) or mission beach, but the downside is that you need to drive to get to campus or spend a LOT of time on a bus. This means if you're home you probably don't want to drive back in, and that people you meet on campus probably don't live too near you.

ilovepoker:

i never said i hate san diego. i love san diego and i love ucsd. i mean, how can you not love one of the best universities in the world? its just the north part of san diego seems to be dull.

just the facts...
