Life at University of Chicago?

What are some of the traditions at UChicago, and what is the social/EC scene like?

Someone who’s actually matriculated will fill you in on the rest, but here are some (publicized) traditions. https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/studentlife/activities/traditions.shtml

Thanks!

Thanks JHS for the links :D

The social scene’s not bad, the houses are pretty tight which is nice for your first couple months. The frats are okay, not good or bad, but as you meet more people you’ll start transitioning more towards apartment parties. From what I’ve felt, we’re all a little nerdy and so people tend to be pretty open and friendly. Anything specific you’d like to know?

The social scene at UChicago is what you make of it. If you’re into frat parties, you can spend your weekends dancing there. If you’re into finding cool restaurants in the neighborhood and eating with friends, you can do that. In my experience, the more things that you get involved in (like student-run organizations and extra-curriculars), the more people you’ll meet and get to know, and the more expansive your social world becomes.
I have to agree with Rny2 though - your house is a reliable and fun place to spend time. It can provide you with all kinds of friendship, activities and advice, in order to make the best of your social life here. And the people you’ll meet through the housing system are in your life right from day one.

Thanks thats great!
