beefs, the kid down the hall from me plays wow 20 hours a day and he seems to be doing ok. also we play super smash brothers more than we do homework in my room. so it's possible to be a huge video game nerd and survive.

^ that made me lol

i'm also in beefs's situation. I love all that the core at Uchicago stands for, but I also just want to have some fun on the weekends partying or chilling in Chicago, and I keep getting the vibe that I either wont have enough time to do that or won't be able to find the people to do it with.

cory...meet beefs...you and beefs will party =D

haha sounds like a plan

cory... that's highly unlikely. For everybody I know working on a given weekend night, there are always people going to parties, watching movies, going to concerts, or just "chilling."

I'm a first year in the Shoreland, which is a pretty great dorm, by the way. In my experience, there's something going on pretty much every night. Except finals week, when alot of peope went into panic mode. I find that people don't really party in my house as much as they do socialize. I mean, people just sit around and drink on a Wednesday night once they finish their work. It might be eight people, three of which don't drink. Also, sometimes people add alcohol to other activities for added enjoyment. In my room, two out of four people drink, only one frequently, and we all get along well. Its a pretty relaxed atmosphere. Again, I can only speak for my house, so it may be different elsewhere.

That sounds like the Shoreland I know.... at around 11pm on a Wednesday one night I was there, somebody was going around door-to-door collecting a group for Bar Night, others were finishing up work, others were goofing off. A few were just coming back from the library and had still more work to do-- if you're in inquiry-based honors analysis, you sign yourself up for lots of work.

Even in the group going to Bar Night, there was a lot of discussion about keeping the alcohol in check, particularly for those who had Thursday morning classes.

My house in BJ is big on TV and intramural sports and not very big on drinking, particularly not on weekday nights. We watch every TV show imaginable and have teams for 4-5 intramural sports a quarter.
