life at University Park?

What's is the general attitude and life like at Penn? How does everyone keep busy? Weather (I'm from Arizona!)? Best frosh dorms? Best clubs? Thanks!

Check out this thread from last year. It provided a lot of good info: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/289619-some-things-do-psu-non-party-animal-those-tired-being-one.html?highlight=non-partier

As for weather, I’m originally from PA, so I hope you like snow! September will probably be perfect, warm days, cool nights, leave starting to change color towards the end of Sept early Oct. Heard they had some snow up there last week. So, dress warm!

The weather is making my decision iffy…
However, when I last visited, I adored the campus and the college town.
My biggest problem with it though is, I’m going in as a communications major (broadcasting) and it’s a very rural town.
Tough for internships and experience you know?

PS - Thanks for the link!

hey azsummer- im going to be a communications major too, and i went to an open house on monday for accepted communications students at penn state. i was really concerned about internships too, esp because im also looking at maryland which is right outside of dc. however, i was really surprised by how much they push internships in the communications department. the man who runs the internship office solely for the communications department says he wants every student to have 2-3 internships before they graduate. they have a program where you live in dc for a semester, intern there, and take a class and stay on top on credits. he also encourages students to do other internships during the year and coordinates them so you can get credits. and, of course you can do internships during the summer. anyways just wanted to pass the info on because i know i was really concerned about that but the guy seemed really really on top of it.

My D is a freshman Journalism major, writes for the Collegian and has an unpaid part time internship with a small local weekly near home this summer that she is eagerly looking forward to. Internships opportunities are numerous, but you need to keep your grades up and be willing to take the time and effort to apply and interview for them.

Well, that sounds at least somewhat promising. I don’t know what to do.
Do you know anything about the studying abroad programs by chance?

hmm, i dont know as much about the study abroad program. in the presentation they gave as they definitely said you could study abroad and get credits. also, youre required to have a minor so you can get credits for your minor too. the program must be fairly large since the university is large but i just dont know as much about it compared to the internship program
