I got accepted early to Villanova and am wondering about the things they don't tell you at the information session. Villanova is known for having no parties and strict dorm rules. Is this true? I don't usually party, but will my social life be a bore? What is the overnight guest policy?

Parties,yes…strict dorm rules,yes also…social life is very good,according to our D

When you say that there are strict dorm room rules, what exactly does that include?
I was accepted into the honors program and will most likely attend villanova, so I am very curious as to how strict villanova is.

It goes like this: Just don’t be stupid. Freshman have a floor policy of no members of the opposite sex in your dorm after midnight on weeknights and 230 on weekends (I believe several school have this policy as well). That being said, this rule is broken all the time and as long as you’re not stupid about it , you’ll get away with it. If you get caught, its also not a big deal, as nothing is really done. If you get caught drinking, there is a fine and a meeting with the dean, but that is no different than at other universities. Parties can sometimes leave something to be desired, but they always happen on the weekends. And if you can’t find anything at Nova , you can take the train to philly and in 20 minutes you have 10 schools to choose from (Upenn and St Joes throw some good parties).

Those curfew rules are also valuable so a roommate can get some sleep.

Curious what the intermural sports is like on campus? Looks like Villanova offers plenty. Do alot of the students get involved with sports as a weeknight or weekend activity? I also noticed the school offers quite a few club sports teams as well. How different are the club teams versus the intermural teams?

Also, I would say my S is not into a heavy party scene. How prevalent is this on campus? Do a significant number of students get involved in fraternities & sororities to the point where non-greek students feel left out?

Thanks!

D is involved with club sports and has most games on Sun evenings. Although there are frats and sororities, there is no on campus housing so its not a major part of the campus social environment.

Thank you njblue!

Irvinemom; I think there are a lot of non partiers on campus- they get involved with service groups (habitat for humanity, special olympics, etc), all types of kids support the basketball team, intellectual clubs & pursuits are celebrated too. I think the % of frat & sorierity is very small; maybe about 20% - just a guess.
