i am currently in 2nd year of pursuing btech in biotech.im 19 years old.however now i feel a career in medicine would be a better option for me.
the earliest possible i can join a medical college in india is in 2013.il turn 20 by then.do u think its the correct step for me to take??because il be 1or 2 years older than my peers.that may affect me to an extent.also am i too late to join medical school at the age of 20??
Please please reply! !I need correct advise and guidance.

pls pls somebody guide me!!!

Sara, your decision appears to be incorrect and may be with frustration but not on ambition.
You have to write Entrance exams again and get admission. This process will take one more year. If you don’t get good rank you have to pay capitation which starts from Rs. 25 lakhs upto one crore depending on the reputation of the college.
forget this thinking. Be realistic and think with positive mind.
Complete your B.Tech, undertake research and render some service to the community in
your desired field.
Hope this will help you a little.

i have started studying for entrances.i am in 2nd year in 2012.nd if i clear entrances in 2013 i get admission in 2013.are my fears about being too late to join med college valid??answer this question instead.please

I believe that it’s never too late.
If you’re following your passion and get into med school, there’s nothing better than that. But you shouldn’t worry about peers thing. There are people who don’t get selected in even the first or the second attempt and yet they retry everytim…, so age difference gap is not a good excuse to go into a field you are not passionate about or interested in, i.e biotech.
Give in your best shot at med entrance and don’t worry about such age difference gaps.
Good luck :)

@rew2402 thanks a lot!!you definitely boost my confidence.but are you sure if my peers will ask me my age they will not vonsider me weird??also since its not something what people do in india will i be again considered the odd one out?

OP, as i said before, it wont affect anything or consider weird about the age thingie.
i hope you know people take drop for 1, 2 and sometimes even for 3 years so as to qualify the medical entrances. people do that. and that is completely usual.
so just focus on getting in at the moment. there would be anything weird or odd about it.

on a pro side, you have 2 years of Biotech education experience.
good luck

Okay, your question is about YOU. Not your peers. Are you really going to let the idea that you might “stand out” or be considered weird stop you from pursuing medicine? Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, college is about a career. It’s NOT about what other people think, it’s about what YOU want to do.

saar become doctor and help pashents to live laanger life…you will get so many the blessings

@procastinator thanks!!!

sara, few of my closed friends dropped years so as to get into good med schools and age didnt deter them and the one thing that help them going is their passion and motivation for that particular subject they want to study. if you feel you can become a good doctor and give ur very best all your life, then go ahead and do it. its better to do what you love then end up with some course you dont totally relate.
good luck!:)
