I just visited UVa last month and absolutely loved it. Due to finances, I may be joining Air Force ROTC to help pay for my education. (Let's assume I've been granted admission and a type 1 scholarship from AFROTC) I've heard from others that at some schools the ROTC kids are rather isolated and detached from the rest of the university, i.e. ROTC can have a monopoly on your social time. Is there any truth to this at UVa? Do ROTC students intermingle with the student body just as other kids? What is it like being an ROTC student?

Thanks everyone.

I don't think the ROTC students are isolated at all. I've met plenty who are fully integrated into the student body and don't seem to have any trouble fitting in. Remember, UVA's ROTC groups are nothing like, say, Virginia Tech's Corps of Cadets. Not being in ROTC, I can't answer all of your questions, so why don't you get in contact with the Air Force ROTC coordinator at UVA?

Nope, not isolated at all. My roomate last year was/is Army ROTC and still had time for Varsity Crew (no small time commitment) as well as a full class load.

Thanks guys. I wanted to ask students and not the ROTC office because the latter's answers would probably be biased. It good to hear this- thank you.
