Life on UCSD

Hello!

I currently live in northern cal, and narrowed my choices to UCSD, UCI, and UC Davis.

In all honesty, I want to get out of Nor Cal, so UCI and UCSD has more of a spark to me.

I was leaning towards UCSD, not only because of its reputation but because I thought there was a lot to do. After scrolling through these boards, im finding out that my expectations may not be true. If anyone is a current UCSD student (or has been), what is life like on campus and around? Like is there stuff to keep me busy on the weekends and at night? This is important to me because if i do decide to go here I'll be all alone (as in no friends, no family that I would know) and i need to keep myself busy...

How is life at UCSD anyway?

Yes I agree, I am in between UCLA and UCSD, because UCSD has much more favorable terms for GE's (I get out of about 7 GE's as opposed to none at UCLA) While all the rest basically overlap classes I already have to take for my major, so I really only have to take 6 true GE classes), but I am worried about going to UCSD because of what I have heard about the social scene. I have also been there on a friday night and it seemed alot of kids were just in their dorms playing video games or what not. While I am not a partier, I don't like being at home on a friday night.

To me UCLA is out of the question, it is way too urban for me and I really didn't like it =(

I've been accepted to UCSD and UCLA as well (also SB, SC, Davis, and Riverside, for bragging rights :p), and I'm having a hard time deciding too. I won't know if I've been accepted to Berkeley untill the 30th, if I am accepted there, decisions will be even more difficult.

Both SD and LA are great for my major (Geophysics/geosciences), but I'm really having a hard time deciding where I'd rather be So far I'm leaning toward SD more, from what I've read ( alot here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=41687) SD seems alot more laid back, not as much party scene, which for me is a good thing- not real into that. SD seems like a more pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere, but we'll see. Transfer admit day is coming up.

Hopefully some people currently at UCSD can chime in and help us out?

People always say that your social life will be what you make of it, and it's completely true.

I know people who haven't spent a friday or saturday night at home. Some of them haven't spent one sober. Anyone who is interested in parties (or otherwise social events) seems to have no trouble finding any. Even without partying, there's a ton of hiking in La Jolla, and of course, the beach. If you're bored, it's really just because you're not looking.

The hiking, biking, and other physical activities are looking very attractive to me...
Thanks for the input!

whitewonder, you amuse me...

"but I am worried about going to UCSD because of what I have heard about the social scene"
