Hello, I was working on a tenative schedule and I just had a quick question.

I am a Pre-Bus econ major, but I was thinking about applying to med school ; is taking Life Science 1 my first quarter going to be "worth it" for me? I know it won't help me progress towards my major, but how about satisfying some med school requirements?

See the problem is, I have 2 classes dead set that I want to take my first quarter at UCLA and I'm really stuck on a third one to take. I was going to take Econ 1, but it is all full...so I was browsing for things that I could find interesting and beneficial, and Life Sci. 1 was one I found; but will it help? I already have "Unassigned" credit for the Life Sciences (5 on AP Biology)...

If anyone has any suggestions, insight into whether or not taking this class, or some other class reccommendations, I'd appreciate it, thanks!

Decide on your goals now. Don't end up as a jack of all trades (i.e. taking two different courseloads throughout college), because you probably won't get into either Business Economics or medical school and graduate within four years unless you commit yourself to either one from freshman year onwards. If you're pre-med, then take LS 1, fight as hard as you can and don't look back; otherwise I recommend you take Econ 2 or an easy GE instead, because LS 1 will drag down any North Campus major's GPA (vital for Business Economics).

Yes econ 1 and econ 2 can be switched around, neither is a pre-req for the other. You're going to be learning pretty much the same basic concepts in the first couple of weeks of each class.

flopsy's right, ls1 will def. drop your gpa down which you will need as bisecon. as bisecon, only the "best of the best" get into that major because you have not yet declared it officially yet.

heh, i wouldn't necessarily say only the "best of the best" get into biz-econ, that's stretching it a bit. you need roughly a B+ average to get in, and it's competitive, but some people act like you need straight A's or you won't have a chance, which isn't the case. but I would agree with Flopsy, you should just pick one option now and try to stick with it, especially since pre-med and biz-econ and such divergent paths.

You're gonna have to suck it up, because as far as I know Hou is the only teacher that's been teaching Econ 2 in the past few years. Don't worry about the reviews and just do the best you can do.
