Would applying as "Undeclared - Life Science" affect my chances of eventually getting into Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics (MIMG); Molecular, Cell, Developmental Biology (MCDB); Physiological Science; or Psychobiology?

I was told that applying as "Undeclared - Life Science" wouldn't hurt my chances of getting into the College of Letters and Science because the majors aren't considered. However, I was concerned that if I applied as undeclared, I might not be able to get in the majors listed above due to the amount of people that have already picked that major.

Also, would I be correct in assuming that the majors listed above are in the division of life sciences and that biochemistry is in the division of physical sciences?

in other words… all the majors start off with the same curriculum. sometimes you are considered a pre-major, sometimes you just do the pre-reqs for the major and then declare. main point: no one actually has to start off as the major. two of the majors you’re looking at have pre-majors, so you’re not losing out on anything by not being declared the pre-major when you apply.

when you get to UCLA, all you need to do is take the pre-major classes which all 4 majors have in common. follow the program, talk to your counselors, and declare when you need to declare. being undeclared now has no bearing on your eventual admission to whichever major you pick.
