Life under a controlling, addict and his death//Personal Insight relevance?

I am a Community college student who is applying to UC schools and out of state’s as a Business major. My top school is Haas, but that isn’t too relevant. To make a long story short, I lived in divorced homes with a super controlling, extremely high tempered, bipolar, addict (pills) father. My mother is an angel compared to him. This is not to say that he didn’t have good traits and I feel that he was a good person under it all who just let the drugs and economic crisis change him. He had his troubles and what not. Now for my question, is this relevant for the UC question that deals with significant challenge overcoming. Obviously, I will write about myself and how it affected me with respect to how I’ve grown out of my shell etc.

TLDR;
Is traumatic experiences with my father and his death relevant to UC app questions?

It seems relevant to me, as long as you can keep the focus on yourself and not make the essay too bogged down with the strong emotions.

I figured that would be the case. I realize there isn’t a set answer for the essays.
