For those of you who go there:
can u tell me what you do for entertainment?
Do you mainly stay on campus or do you go around nashville?
What is there to do in Nashville?
If you aren't into Greek life, is there a life outside of it?

thank you!

Vandy kids are on spring break this week, so you'll have to settle for a mom's answer just now. S is a student there now and D is going next year. We were there two weeks ago and within a few blocks there were kids going to lacrosse; coming from baseball; and a ton of fans headed to men's basketball. Seems like they get good concerts on a regular basis - S's freshman year the homecoming concert was Counting Crows. In two weeks they have a political seminar on campus called Impact and this year's speakers are Ann Coulter, Al Sharpton, and Howard Dean. I'm not there often, but from what I can tell there is always lots to do on campus. You'll get better answers from the Vandy students, but they may not be on CC this week.

I am currently a first year graduate student at Vanderbilt, but I also went there for undergrad as well....got into this board because my mom always goes here (my brother is going to the Naval Academy, so I checked out the Vandy site). I'm from Chicago and I found Vanderbilt and Nashville had a lot to offer in terms of entertainment--there's never a lack of things to do! I would say that as an undergrad there was a pretty good mix of staying on campus vs. going off campus--I had a car soph. year but freshman were allowed cars when I was there so friends had them. We went to a lot of movies, concerts, clubs downtown, etc... Everything is a pretty cheap cab ride away as well.

There's always lots going on in Nashville--great nightlife downtown and lots of free concerts and events. Vanderbilt also provides a lot of great entertainment between sporting events, concerts and other activities. They send out a weekly e-mail on Fridays to let people know what's going on, in addition to the newspaper (3x per week) and other publications.

I was in a sorority, so I can't completely vouch for non-Greek life, but it seemed as if my friends that were "Independent" (as non-Greeks are called) always had great social lives. All of my roomates after freshman year were not Greek, so it's definitely not segregated (at least I didn't think so). But then again, most of my friends that I hung out with and still keep in touch with are from my sorority. But I definitely don't think it's a requirement for having a good social life! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have and good luck in the decision process!

how's the food and the dorms?
