Hey I'm applying to transfer to LMU (as well as a few other schools) from UMass Amherst. I was wondering what the lifestyle is like there as a student. Are the jesuit rules enforced? As in can you not have girls sleep over in your dorms and such? Hows just the overall lifestyle. Thanks.

Curious to know more about LMU too!

I’m not entirely sure but I don’t think girls are allowed to stay the night. It’s Jesuit but its in Los Angeles, I don’t think the campus is very strict. More information would be nice.

My sophomore daughter is at LMU. Opposite sex are not supposed to sleep over; not sure how strictly that’s enforced, but in general it doesn’t seem too Catholic/strict there. But if you want total freedom consider getting an apartment in Playa del Rey or Westchester. That’s what a fair amount of upperclass students do. Although the new on-campus upperclass apartments are fantastic.

I am at freshman at LMU and the lifestyle is very laid back. Everyone I have met is very nice and they do not put that much stress on themselves. With this in mind, they still work hard in their classes. The rule here is no one of the opposite sex after 2 am. That however is a joke. Nobody ever check anyone in at the front and people come and go all the time after 2 am. I am not fimiliar with the other jesuit rules, but religion is there if you want it. I am not religious and I find plenty of things to do around campus. The professors here are pretty good. They all care about the students and try to engage everyone into discussions. They are open to all opinions and that makes class fun. Overall, the campus is full of great people who take class seriously.

Thanks for the replies southpawsd and researching4emb.

I wanted to know how is the social life style? Is there any partying on campus? Where does the partying take place? Are there house parties? Where exactly is the campus located? How far is it from downtown LA?

don’t know about the social life, but the campus is about a mile from the beach north of manhattan beach/el segundo and south of santa monica. It is 15 minutes from downtown L.A., but with traffic, which there is usually a bit of, it usually takes longer.

social life is pretty good overall. the students are very friendly and polite. parties are NEVER thrown on campus but this is not an issue since so many are thrown by students living within a couple blocks of lmu. if you choose one of the more time-consuming majors (e.g. any of those in the college of science and engineering), i advise going greek. for greek students who have declared such majors, it helps that they know well in advance when they will be taking time off for formals, parties, etc. so they can plan around them accordingly and it ensures that what little time they spend outside of books is time well spent.
