Light rail

Looking for apartments and hearing about places on the soon to come light rail. Yet, looking on the transit website, there are already some light rails listed.

So, I'm confused. Is there actually a light rail that goes to the university now, or is that something that is being built in the future?

We are still searching for housing for son, and we definitely want to find him something that is on public transportation that will take him to the university.

Since we're from the south, we're not sure what y'all close down during heavy snow, and not sure if the buses and/or light rails close down during bad weather.

Thanks for any help!

The light rail is opening in a couple of weeks. It is already built and runs directly through campus.

There are tons of apartments very close to campus, some are right next to the dorms. Nothing will shut down unless the school shuts down.

The new green line will be up and running sometime this summer <a href=“METRO Green Line - Metro Transit”>Error; Based on this map, I wouldn’t much farther east than Prospect Park (possibly the Westgate or Raymond stops ) Have you looked in the Stadium Village area?

I think they had one or maybe 2 days shut down this past winter because of extreme cold, not because of heavy snow. They need to make their decisions for the safety of commuter students and faculty/staff. Minus 50 degrees makes travel difficult.

The light rail runs even with heavy snow as does the bus system. The university closed due to the cold not the snow. Son will be in an apartment on Washington Ave (Stadium Village area) and the light rail station is about a block away. The green line will officially open next week so it will be even easier to get to the airport/downtown/MOA etc.

Opens tomorrow!
