I previously posted this on the RD thread but didn't receive significant responses, so hopefully a new thread will provide greater visibility to CC users. I applied RD in mid-October. This is undoubtedly my reach school, but one that has great appeal to me. Its picturesque and breathtaking campus is only the icing on the cake to the exceptional education that it offers under its "little ivy" banner. The library is magnificent, a veritable trough of knowledge that has me, a prospective history/poly sci. major, drooling over the possibilities. I know i will be receiving my decision circa April 1st, an excruciating wait March shall be, so i'm seeking some feedback regarding the chances of my acceptance. I am ranked 7th out of 440, have an unweighted GPA of 4.0, ACT of 28, SAT(highest individual scores) of a 2010(CR:760 M:550 W:700). I have taken a rigorous course load, including many college-level classes, but a glaring blemish on my App. is the abscence of APs and SAT II's. My EC'S are substantial, including NHS and Spanish H.S., Vol Jr. Fire Dept, mentoring, chess club, vol. work at the library, marching band, and numerous job experiences. I'm banking on my essay to blow them away, but I don't think my rank and GPA are enough to compensate for the SAT/AP weaknesses(The SAT math score puts a damper on everything). In addition, I'm a male(I'm aware that Vassar is attempting to balance their gender ratio, so at least that's in my favor) from New York. What do you guys think? To those whom have stats similar to mine that were accepted, rejected, or have even applied, commentary would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

I was accepted, and we have similar stats and interests. Your extracurriculars are great and judging by your SAT writing score and the paragraph above, your essay must be pretty solid. You might have a good chance at getting in. Good luck!

This one is hard to tell. Im also applying to Vassar, so I’m not an expert in any sense
First, us males do have a better chance of being accepted, or so Ive heard, which definatly plays in our favor. I though that Vassar required SAT II’s…I would double check on their website to see if that’s true, because if they do require it and you didn’t take them, your application would be incomplete UNLESS you submitted your ACT scores (that nullifies that requirement).
I think that the college level classes help balance the lack of AP’s, depending on how many you took, ect.
Id say if your EC’s look good enough and your essay does blow them away, you have a good chance! good luck, im hoping to get accepted too!!

@jacob92 Yes, I submitted the ACT score in place of the SATII requirement. I’m assuming u applied RD as well, so if u don’t mind me asking, what are your stats and chances of acceptance?

being a male is definitely a plus! 35% acceptance rate vs. 20% for females! That having been said, there is no formula for acceptance to a liberal arts college which “builds” its class and if you look at various profiles of people on CC who have been accepted or rejected, there’s no way to determine what got one student in over another!

I turned in my ACT scores instead of SATII’s, but I’m just a fellow applicant :] I think you’ll do really well between class rank, a good essay, and all the volunteer work you’ve got going.

@chenti Did you apply RD? I think the letters are en route. I know someone from New York that received their acceptance letter on March 24th, quite early for a RD applicant, but promising. Hopefully we will get them b/f April 1st :)
