Sorry I know these messages must get annoying, but if you have a chance to read this and give me some feedback, that would be great! I'm very interested in attending the University Of Minnesota next fall, and I'm wondering if I have a chance of getting in.

I've had a job since the beginning of my sophomore year (10-15 hours a week)
I'm also involved with my church and lots of service hours (75+)

Any other information I should provide?
Any recommendations for things I should do to increase my chances?

If I were to make a bet, I would say you’re in. Probably around an 80% actually. I would just try and get 1 recommendation from a teacher plus 1 from outside of school (church member, lifelong family friend, employer, etc.).

The most important part is to apply EARLY. Like the beginning of September if you have time.

But, I don’t think getting into CLA is anything for you to worry about.

You don’t have to worry at all, and you’ll probably be offered a good amount of scholarships. The school isn’t so important yet because you don’t have to declare that when you’re first applying.

Oh my bad I read your gpa wayyyy wrong and yes I would say basically a 100% chance at CLA haha.

^
The school is actually really important due to drastic differences in admissions standards for each college. Therefore, you should at least try and know the general area you want to go into. I also wouldn’t expect any scholarships if I was the OP.

I think the average ACT for the '10-'11 incoming CLA freshman class is 27-28, and I think the out-of-state status will help you since they’re trying to gain a more national appeal. So if you apply early, your chances are really good.

And btw, I’m a fellow out-of-state student in CLA and I love it here! Good luck!

Does anyone know the criteria for being awarded instate tuition for an OOS student? I cannot seem to find anything on the website. My son has a 34 ACT and a 4.8 w GPA. He also has good ECS. He is interested in engineering.

^ If you’re talking about the Gold National Scholarship, which covers the full difference in tution, then I’d say he has a good chance. I got it…but granted, I’m in CLA and it will be more competitive for engineering.
