Likelihood of Having Acceptance Rescinded

Hi, I was accepted into Umass Amherst for the CS program. Normally, I would be elated about this, but instead, I have been stressing out. My physics grade for this year is awful, and after having a discussion with my peers and my guidance counselor, it has come to my knowledge that I am not the only one with a terrible grade in that class.

Currently, with my two terms averaged together, I have a 76. This is only because I get 100s on everything except my exam scores which range from 20% - 50%. The average exam grade for my class last term was 34% (all averages combined). Kids in my class have had a breakdown midway through and many have turned to cheating for a good grade (which I haven’t done, but I’m so tempted to).

I’m so unbelievably upset. I cried for hours on end because of this class and now I’m realizing that this class can be the reason why my acceptance can be revoked. I been getting tutoring and seeking extra help, but his tests don’t relate the concepts currently being taught. I don’t blame him since this is his first year teaching, but it pains me to know that I am at the blunt end of his mistakes.

What’s the likelihood of my acceptance being revoked? Should I explain the situation to the admissions office?

You are NOT going to be rescinded from ANY school for a 76----relax

i highly doubt your acceptance will be revoked. Even before i apply to UMASS, i had
Cs in AP Physics Junior Year, and
Cs in AP Biology.

Relax and enjoy your senior year!

if you have decent grades overall in high school, proactive in extracurricular and decent SAT/ACT test grades, you’ll be fine.

Why not speak to your guidance counselor? I suspect, strongly, that she’ll say the same thing as the people here… but it might have more weight in your mind hearing it from her.

@bjkmom I already have and she told me that she can’t do anything about it. A lot of my peers already have talked to her beforehand, and she said since it’s so far along the year that no one can really change classes or transfer out. She told me to try my best, so that’s what I’m going to do.

I don’t mean that you ask her to drop your class. I mean that you should ask her what you’ve asked us: WIll you be rescinded? My guess is that she, too, will say no.
