those of you who didn't get one, admissions is doing some phone calls (feb 20th) from 6:30-9:00pm to likely admits, though this time its mostly engineers and urms.

Congrats to everyone who got the likely notes. Good luck.
I see very few Asian male kids getting positive responses. is this my imagination or lack of knowledge? I see"stupidkid" identified himself as asian male. I know the "asian males" are at their worst disadvantage. well, let's see. There is hope for everyone.

lvilleslacker, how do you know that Columbia would make make soem phone calls on Feb20th? What's your source? just curious!!
BTW do you know if any other college sends likely letters? I only know about Dartmouth and Duke.

yes (to miss secret) i am also a cc applicant and got one. does anyone have any approximations as to what percentage of applicants/accepted students get one?

I just got my likely letter from columbia college :) I had an interview, but haven't sent in my midyear reports yet.

I got one from CC too...it seems like a lot of people got one this year

Idk, I've noticed most of them are going to minorities or people with almost perfect scores.

Can int'l students get "likelies" as well?

well im not a minority but i do have near perfect scores...i didnt think that would automatically qualify me but whatever

I'm indian (like the asian indian) and I got a likely letter for Columbia College. But I did get 2400 and stuff though.

I had no clue - I haven't even had an interview or anything!

Does this mean I'm in for sure?!?!

Got mine today for CC- so relieved :)
As for stats:

4.0 UW, 2330 SAT, Valedictorian, National Merit Finalist, Intel Semifinalist, Siemens Semifinalist, etc.

I'm white and had an interview.

Aw man...I feel so unworthy receiving a likely because my stats can't even compare with everyone else's. I didn't even have an interview :X Congrats to you guys though! You are all amazing.

I just received one to the engineering school and jesus christ! this is so relieving! I wish more colleges would do this.

I'm an asian male with decent test scores (2240, 800 mathII, 770 chem) and a very strong record of leadership in school. This isn't about being a URM or having outrageous test scores. It's about what it always is about: being a strong overall applicant.

Does anyone have an idea of the timeframe within which these letters are sent?
I'd like to know when I can give up hoping for one :P

Hey everyone, Congrats on all the great news.

Yesterday, I received a phone call from an alumni to set up an interview.. However, I haven't received a "likely" letter. I feel like it's a catch-22.

Hm, do you think they'd send likely letters for a deferred ED applicant? I would like to know the time frame too please if anyone knows it!

It seems like quite a few people are getting likely letters though, which makes me wonder what's the chance of getting in with the letter. Since the Harvard likely letters basically state that you're in, you just need to wait for the official acceptance, but so far I only know athletes and URM who have gotten it.

MichelleQQ: My guess is not. They don't start reviewing deferred applications until mid-March.

^^unless something drastically changes about your app I HIGHLY doubt they'd give likely letter to deffered candidates, something has really got to shine about your app, for them to give you an acceptance this early (february). It's something that makes you shine when they're normally going to accept 8-9%, if something like that shone, you'd have gotten in ED hands down. Differed implies grey area so you're neither in nor out, but chances are pretty low.

I got my letter a few days ago for CC, and I was so happy. I was out right rejected to Yale EA, so I thought I had no chance any where else (atleast ivy wise). My SAT isn't perfect, nor am I a minority (Asian, 2230, 800MII, 800BIO-E). I really hope that they are not cruel and decide to reject me in the end =(

I also had a question, did anyone respond to the email. and if you did, what did you say/ask, etc.?

I seriously doubt the CC adcoms are playing some sick, cruel joke on you. Congratulations! You are pretty much in.
I didn't respond to the email nor do I think it is necessary unless you have some legitimate question to ask.
