Likely Emails

If you got a likely letter you should get an acceptance letter. Unless of course your mid year report shocks them because you failed a class or you earned yourself a felony, in which case great job for screwing up your life.

Wahoooo!!!

Well I didn't receive a likely letter. How does this bode for my chances of acceptance to CC?

i would like to know the same!

Well...you're by no means counted out. Honestly, though, who do you think will know the answer to that? I mean, if admissions had sent likely letters to every acceptee, then they might as well just send out the real deal, right? It's not an "early rejection". Good luck to all of you.

Likely letters are a way of enticing the top candidates to going to a school by kind of giving them early "warm fuzzies" about the school.

Well, it certainly worked! Before I received the letter, Columbia wasn't my top choice (high up on the list, but not numero uno). However, it's certainly fighting for all its worth right now. Goes to show how powerful an ego-booster is.

ya does anyone know what proportion of the accepted applicants get likely letters? i feel kinda bad cuz i didn't get 1..also does columbia send ll's out all at once or do it in waves?

i just got one today. i was surprised because its almost march.

I got one today as well for engineering!

HOLY FLYING **** I GOT ONE!!!!

(seas)

O M G!!!!!!!!!!!

omgomgomgomgomg!

oh, as for proportion, i don't know for columbia, but i hear it varies between like 10% and 50% of those ultimately admitted. It's only to those of whom they are absolutely sure.

hey congrats to all of you guys who got likelies :)

i have a question for the SEAS people who got it today...was it an email or an actual letter?

I got a likely to SEAS. I am so freakin excited!!! :P

k2theenny: it was an email.

It looks like they're sending these e-mails out in batches as they read the applications. Anyone else think so?

Skramata, I sure hope so!!!

50% seems awfully high to me...for most schools it's around the top 10% or so of the candidates they plan to admit...

Got one from Fu, which is really funny considering that a) I didn't interview, b) I didn't even send in a math rec (bad relationship with him...did send one from my physics teacher, though) and c) I haven't sent in my midyear.

Not complaining, though :)

(edit for stats: 2380 superscore, valedictiorian when I submitted my app/salutatorian now, no MAJOR major awards, eclectic ECs, white chick)

HEY IS ANYONE sure that these likely emails mean 100% that you're in??????

cuz that would ease a lot of worrying on my part...

(and, no, I haven't dropped grades or gotten arrested since the likely letter came)

yeah, it means you are in, basically. i've never heard of anyone getting a likely letter and not getting in.
