This is redundant, but yes, a likely letter means you are in (again, unless there are unusual circumstances later). I know someone personally who sent out some likely emails last year and they explained that the notes are basically admission notices. The ivies have a deal that none "accepts" students before April first, but they still compete to sway the students' opinions.

did most of the ppl who got likely's apply for engineering?

ahhhh I can't wait for the 31st to get here so we can get the 'official' package :P

I didn't get one. :( lol. I think I will be rejected anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Are these "likely" emails and/or letters for RD applicants?

Yes, for RD.

hey, after a college reviews your application and the committee reads it, then they start sending you brochures and newsletters, is that an indication that you've been accepted?????

no, they'd send you a likely letter if you'd been accepted

actually i'm talkin about NYU and Carnegie Mellon(they dont send likely letters)...they've been sending me recruitment material...is that a sign ive been accepted?

it seems like a lot of people have got them (especially from SEAS)...

are likely letters only sent out to US citizens....what about internationals?

maybe no likely letters for internationals...
too far and too long, maybe will arrive exactly the same day with online desicions.

A classmate of my son's received an interest letter from Columbia last month. My son thinks that may have been because of his classmate's strong application (SAT: 2340, etc.) and because his classmate checked the Hispanic box on the application. My son (also extremely well qualified) has not received any communication from Columbia other than the financial aid email which I'm sure was sent to everyone.

^ Yeah. Even though the FA email was system generated, it made me happy nevertheless :).

Yes I'm very very glad and relieved that Columbia is following suit with the other Ivies in implementing an enhanced FA program.

I can't believe it...I just got an email today.

u got a likely letter today?

Yeah......:)

i guess i still have some hope then..i havent gotten one..

I would venture a guess that these "likely" emails are sent on a rolling basis, so don't give up even if you don't receive one. At some point it may be so close to notification date that they may stop sending the emails. Just guessing here so take my theory with a grain of salt.

Sounds very reasonable.
I just got a likely letter from NYU last Friday,
so it may indeed not be too late.
