"Likely Letter" Anyone?

Like the title says.

I got a "likely letter" from Cornell today, that basically says

"blah blah...you are very likely to be admitted to Cornell"

does this mean anything significant? Or should I silence my excitement and just keep waiting till the end of March (when decisions come out)?

Did anyone else get it?

congratulations! you've been admitted!

i got the same letter, it definitely means we're being offered admission.

YAYY!!! I GOT ONE TOO! (I also got one from Penn and I'm waiting from decisions from other ivies-- this is awesome)!!!

^ congratulations..

are you females or males (if you applied to the engineering program)?

I received my letter last Friday for Engineering. Is anyone planning to go up to Cornell Days? If so which weekend?

kingarthur, I am presuming you are a male?
What race are you (I am not racist, but am trying to determine if any white males got likely letters)

I am a guy. My mother is Hispanic and my father is white but I did list both races on my application. I think the reason I received a letter was because I also applied to MIT, CalTech, Stanford and CMU all of which announce before the end of this month so competition. Most people think the schools you apply to are secret but if you submitted a FAFSA, which we all do, then when this information is provided to the Universities it lists all the schools that you have applied to. I hope this helps.

Kingarthur: My mom is also hispanic and my dad is also white (I'm female). I think we got in because of our race. Cornell (I think) is need-blind so when assessing applications, they don't look at your financial stuff.

So, I have a question...
People have been calling them "likely letters," but my letter says that I "will be offered admission to Cornell." Is that different? It doesn't seem very unlikely at all.

it's absolutely likely..

Likely letter is just the term for them. They are called that because most schools send out a letter that states something like "You have great chances of being admitted" or "You will likely be offered admission." They mention it so vaguely because they can't release any official decisions until the decision date (March 31 in this case) but they are essentially early acceptances.

Hope that helps.

I heard that some people get "you will be offered admission to Cornell" and others "you are likely to be admitted to Cornell". I'm the latter, but I'm sure the former is way more assuring! So iamkid, you are definitely in :)

Anyone got the likely letter from AAP (Architecture, Art and Planning)???

My letter says "you will be offered admission."

iamkid...You are correct as I got a second letter today stating that I will be admitted and inviting me to Diversity Weekend 3/16 to 3/18. What part of the country are you from. I am from Houston

I'm from Virginia.
If I get into University of Virginia, as well, then it'll be a tough choice because UVA has a greattt value for instate students.

Money shouldn't be such a big issue. -sighhh-

I got one "you will likely be admitted" and one "you WILL be admitted"

I think it's because of race... I'm a hispanic female engineering applicant.

I got a “you will likely be admitted”, but i am a white female engineering applicant, so i dont think it has much to do with race.

Oh nono I mean for the definitely admitted letter? Just because it came with an invitation to “diversity day” haha

But I’m probably wrong. It’s happened before ^.^

AND congrats on the likelies, everyone! :-)
