Does Washington U. send out "likely letter" to applicants in March? If so, do people ,who receive these letters, like almost 100% sure they will get in in early April?

what's a likely letter?

Likely letters for most schools are for athletes who have committed to a school. I do not believe Wash U. does this for academic purposes but I may be wrong.

anybody else?

they didn't do it for ED

a real likely letter from Yale: http://www.tdy-perdiem.com/rsi/yale1.htm

my friend got a washu likely letter in early march.

vtoodler, what were your friend's stats? And, how early is early March?

Rather than a likely letter, it is also possible that WashU will send out a formal admissions letter early. Though everyone in admissions denies that this happens, there have been quite a few people on CC claiming to have received early notice. Their stats range from the overqualified to the borderline.

like march 8. she had a 3.7 gpa and a 30 act. she was accepted to washu but declined for a scholarship at tulane.

Wash U sent out likely letters last year.

Well, then my next question is when do actual acceptances come out? I mean, I would love to receive a likely letter, but if I find out my real status a week later, it's not that big a deal.

I don't know if Wash-U sends out "likely letters" per se, but I do know that they have sent out "early writes" (not likely in .. you ARE in). In the cases I know about, these letters have gone out at the very beginning of March, coinciding with announcement dates regarding various Wash-U merit scholarship programs. Kids getting merit or in the running for merit via a merit weekend, might be told "they're in." I've also heard unconfirmed reports of some non merit kids being told they're in at roughly the same time. Anyway, if past precedent is any guide, early March might be the timeframe. Hope this helps.

WashU notifies semi finalists for merit awards towards the end of February. Semifinalists are invited to WashU for scholars interview weekend which takes place March 24-25 this year. People invited to this event can consider themselves to be in. Merit award winners are notified shortly after the weekend. Although an invite does not guarantee a merit award, a substantial percent of the attendees receive some form of merit award.

March 23-26

Are there any published reports on the percentage of "attendees" that later receive an award, or is the source for your post anecdotal?

Based on experience over the past few years and conversations with people at WashU. You can PM me if you have more specific questions.

interesting, because i got a real offer of admission reallllly early, like back in october/november. this boggled my mind because i hadn't even done an alumni interview or anything

so, when are they sending the early "clear admit" letters this year?

they already have(back in early feb/late jan), and only sent out ~24
