Likely letter/email

Just got a likely email from Rice!
Anyone else?
(Btw, I also was invited to Vision 2009 previously.)

Are they customized? I'm thinking not.

What does this email say?

My daughter just received one too .. she also recently received an invitation to Vision 2009. She's planning to attend that, as we haven't been able to visit campus yet...

The letter has 7 short paragraphs between the greeting and the closing, i.e.:

[daughter's first name]

[4 paragraphs]

Use your Rice ID number to register: [...]

[2 more paragraphs]

Sincerely yours

Even if it is a form letter, it is still very flattering!

Rice Id # to register for what?

aw I got invited to Vision but no likely letter :[

not everyone got their vision invites at the same time. they might be sending likely letters out at different times for different people

To register for Vision 2009 ... she hasn't had a chance to do so yet.

im guessing all the URM's/Vision 2009 invitees got there likely letters earlier than the ORM/Reg. Decision/Normal Applicants . The only thing missing in my application was the application fee so im guessing they wont look at my application till they have that?

received a likely email as well
Here is the format in case anyone is curious

......,
After reading your application for admission, the first reader was so excited she passed it on to me to read. You have done a wonderful job of presenting yourself to us, and I want to thank you for your outstanding effort.
Your application gives us the sense of a student who will be academically successful and who will contribute fully to campus life. You could be a leader, a researcher, a loyal teammate, a volunteer, a mentor, and a great roommate. The possibilities are endless. With your unique point of view and life experiences, I could envision you sparking a lively intellectual discussion and contributing to the traditions in your residential college. You have achieved at a high level so far in school, and I believe you would thrive at Rice.
While the admission committee won't meet to make final decisions until the end of March, I feel you would be a strong match for Rice. Based on your application, it is likely that you will be successful in gaining admission to the university.
I hope you will accept our invitation for VISION 2009. This expenses paid event for students of color will provide you access to faculty, students, and alumni. It is a great opportunity to experience all that Rice has to offer. The deadline for registration is February 6.
Use your Rice ID number to register: ......
If you are unable to attend VISION, I hope you will save the date for visiting Rice during Owl Days, April 8-9. The Owl Days program is especially designed for admitted students to meet faculty and students, spend a night in a residential college, and fully experience all that Rice has to offer. The program begins on Wednesday, April 8, with morning class visits and midday information sessions, continuing on to the following Thursday morning.
Thank you for your interest in Rice! I look forward to sending you your admission decision letter in late March.
Sincerely yours,

Keith Todd Director of Admission

Wish I could attened Vision 09
Have other stuff to do that weekend
will they take it as a lack of interest?

iambored10 you need to get your payment in ASAP!

amdn, was the likely letter your first notification for Vision or did you receive a separate invite?

also, when did you get your likely email?

I want a likely email :[

I know Visions is practically a likely, but still...

Im with acolombianp28

congratulate !

got the invitation in the mail for vision separately
the other was by email

can you get a likely letter if you aren't a vision person (I'm not a "student of color")? In pretty sure the first reader has read my application by now cause like two weeks ago she said it was in her pile for that week, if I havnt gotten a letter like that is it bad?!
I reeeally want to go to rice!!!

VERY few students get likely letters! Really. Before the advent of the internet, prospective students weren't aware of offers other kids were getting... I really think that in a lot of ways this forum just feeds the anxiety of students. Relax and wait - it's hard to do but time eventually passes and all will be revealed. ;)

I think Rice's use of the likely letter is a fairly new strategy for Rice. They really seemed to only start using it to a limited extent after they did away with Interim Decision (EA).

I'm pretty sure that Class of 2012 may have been the first to receive likely letters.
Still wondering how how many were sent last year. But just as merit aid
has expanded to 30%, maybe more '13 applicants will get likelies, too. I sure hope so --

Have any non-URMs received likely letters yet? It seems as though only people who have been invited to Vision have gotten them so far.
