I'm a Non-URM, got my login around the 20th of January and haven't gotten a likely letter.

i'm a non-URM and i got a likely letter today.

non URM, in state and got a likely letter today!!! SOOOO excited.:)

OOS non-URM, got one today. I'm really excited!!! :)

Does anyone know if a likely means you have a good chance at significant merit-based aid? That would make it a lot easier to convince my parents to let me go all the way to Texas...

If you don't mind, could those of you who received a likely letter post your stats. Thanks :)

Alizarda,
A good chance -- I think so. At least, that's how it worked for my son, last year. And this year, 30% of accepted students will be offered merit aid. Congratulations to you and to everyone else who's been honored with a likely letter!

woo! received my likely letter today...OOS and non-URM; in terms of stats...

SAT Math-750;CR-800; Writing-800 ( In one sitting)

hope that helped!

my urm friend in nj got one
2330 sat (3 different sittings)
sat ush - 790, chem - 740, math2 - 750, bio - 720

I got one! I'm non-URM and from the northeast.
sats- 750m 800r 790wr (2340 total) sat2s were all in the high 700s. rank 3/348
Is it just me or does Rice seem to put a lot of weight on standardized testing in the admissions process? Whatever, I'm not complaining :]

How does merit aid work? Do you have to be a Nat'l merit scholar to get it? 30% seems really high-- does Rice give a lot more merit aid than other universities?
Also, what are Owl Days like?

i posted my stats in the other thread. they're pretty brief, but i hope they help?

there has been several of these out there within the last couple of days. perhaps a couple hundred - just a guess.

yay!! thanks ottoline :)

also, stats:
OOS non-URM
2400 SAT, 800 Chem, 800 Math 2
not sure of exact GPA, but all A's in most challenging curriculum
varsity sports, band, Habitat for Humanity (club officer), Best Buddies, community service, etc.
5 AP Chem, 5 APUSH

I got a likely letter in the mail today too, but I did not received an invitation to Visions, even though I am Asian. I have also been accepted to Emory (Emory Scholar semifinalist) and Vanderbilt and deferred at Yale.

SAT: 2310
SAT II: high 700's
I do a lot of extracurriculars/serve in many leadership roles.

Hope that helps!

Congratulations, B301. The reason you did not receive an invitation to Vision Weekend is that the program is directed at under-represented minorities, i.e. African American and Hispanic students. Asian students would be considered an over-represented minority at Rice (and most other schools, really).

Haha, thanks Dorian_Mode. I was just a little confused because I was invited to Vanderbilt's multicultural weekend. Good luck to everyone else!
