Likely letter from Dartmouth, Waitlisted at Georgetown

I'd rather go to Dartmouth but just trying to give hope to others who feel a rejection/waitlist from G'town is bad news for other schools.

Thanx so much, mike-- you have heart..... My d was waitlisted at Georgetown today and her Dad is an alum. Boo hoo.....

The waitlist letter is BRUTAL!!!

Attached to the letter is another sheet of paper which states that in 2005 only 1 % (!!!) of wait-listed students in the business school were ultimately admitted... thanks for the hope Georgetown, thanks...

also would anyone have any clue for a person waitlisted at Georgetown if there is still any possibility for (my dream school) Notre Dame??? the consensus around my (Jesuit-Catholic) school is that you get into both or neither and i am now really hoping this is not the case... any help would be appreciated

Schools are completely random and differ. One school may be looking for something and you may fit the bill while another school already has somebody like you. Just remember, colleges look for a well rounded class, not a well-rounded student. A rejection/waitlist is nothing to be taken personally. Yale might need a tuba player to plug into their band while georgetown might have a plethora of them and that makes all the difference.

In general, I would think you would have an easier time getting in at Notre Dame than at Georgetown, but I second what mike9x said. So either way, yes there's hope for you blue06.

yeah i got waitlisted at georgetown as well but i received an early-write decision from swarthmore, which is another most competitive school, so it is all good.

My sister got into Dartmouth and was rejected from Georgetown.

I got waitlisted at Georgetown this year also. A friend of mine was rejected from Georgetown last year and got into Columbia off their waitlist.

Mike9x you made a bad day a little brighter with your post. I was waitlisted at GU (after being deferred in the early round) today and hear back from the Ivies on thursday. Thank You.

ummm this might help .... well its been helping me deal... lol .. i was deferred early from columbia and rejected from georgetown so hey columbia defers only ppl that have a real shot regular decision!

Thanks Mike9x and Corranged!

Thanks for this thread... I feel like I've still got a shot at my other schools now. Georgetown's tough... I don't think anybody from my school got in this year.

Oh, this thread makes me feel a little bit better.

me too! just got my letter and I'm waitlisted as well, at first it shattered my hope of getting into the ivies but now I see it isn't so...

My nephew, two years ago, was admitted to Georgetown and rejected at Notre Dame and UVA.
I would NOT say that Georgetown is harder to get into than ND. The places available at ND for non-athletes non-legacies are very limited when compared to the number of kids dying to go there.

I got into UPenn, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.

Rejected from Columbia

Waitlisted from G-town

Randomness...

Wow incredible

Congrats Mike4x
Do you know where you wanna go, ie which one you privilage

yeah, definitely random, got into Johns Hopkins and Cornell, waitlisted at Bucknell

Georgetown is about as selective as some Ivy League schools and more so than many other schools in the top 25. In fact, when mentioning to students here that I was rejected from Rice and admitted at Georgetown, I received puzzled looks.
