Likely Letter? Oh yesssssss

about 10 minutes ago, i arrived to my building complex. although it was only 2 pm, i decided to open the mail box to see if the mail man had arrived for the day. i open it, and am pleasantly surprised to find it full. amist the cluter, i saw a Penn regular sized envelope.

oh. my. god. could it be? is it possible that I got a likely letter?

as you know i’m obsessed with college, and according to CC, no mass amount of this envelope was sent out.

i get nervous as i axiously wait for the elevator to finally get to the 5th floor. (I was holding a ****load of stuff, so i couldn’t open it then).

I finally arrive, open the letter and…

" I am pleased to tell you that we are waiving the $70.00 application fee. The information contained in your Request for Waiver of Application Fee indicates that such an exemption is warranted…"

oh my freaking gosh, kill me now? I got so excited for nothing. oh well, that’s life? lol

I hope that made you laugh :)

(even though it didn’t make me lol)

Do they really mail out likely letters? I don't think so.

ivys dont do likely letters, im pretty sure

but ouch tho, sorry to hear about that

From what I am reading, Yale is sending out Likely letters.

dartmouth sends them out too.

hhhhh.... i tht it almost was!

Dartmouth does.

Between November and December I was so anxious about my decision that I checked the mail everyday. One day I saw a small envelope from SAS, except it was addressed to my dad, and thanked him for his $50 donation. That really got my hopes up for no reason.

likely letters are 4 athletes i thot!

Look on the bright side: They waived your $70 application fee!! Yippee!

I just found out Cornell Engineering sends likely letters...

not that it affects me one way or the other

Similar thing happened to me today that happened to the OP. I got home and found a UPenn letter on my counter. Was excited for about 2 seconds, then I opened it, read it, and it was just telling me how applying to a joint program works.

All the ivies send liekly letters to athletes. Yale, Dartmouth, Columbia (Fu), and COrnell has been known to send them to non-athletes as well.

around when do likely letter get sent? end of Feb? early March?

Ungst - same.

haha same here
i was screaming/crying hysterically when my dad made me look at the date on the letter head.... sent in oct about receiving my app.
dammit.
lol

yale definitely sends likely letters from what i've been reading on the yale thread

Pretty sure Penn doesn't send likely letters to non-athletes.

And with regard to the OP's story--the same thing happened with me, only with Dartmouth. Got home, saw the envelope, got incredibly excited, opened it up.... was informed of my username and password for accessing the online notification system. Lots of fun, that was.

Similar situation happened to me when I applied to Penn. I enjoy that few seconds of excitement!

I was just on my official visit to UPenn for crew, and the coach told me that he dosen't offer likely letters but he can tell the admissions to support certain people and the people he support have always gotten in. But then I talked to a coach from a different school who told me that all ivies offer likely letters...so now I'm confused about what the Penn coach said...can he initiate a likely letter or not?
