Congratulations A few of my friends came to this event when they were admitted and they had a great time.

Looks like Iām not going to Duke. Congrats on the likelies/AB scholar invites guys. Iām sure you deserve them.

ā ā ā ā ā . someoneās a little over the edge.

all these things are for special candidates. iām sure the majority of accepted applicants do not find out until D-day

If you are a minority and donāt get the email/letter, doest it mean you are not going to be accepted?

Selter01ā¦absoulutely. I think Duke admits 3-4000 and only 350 get a likely letter. Furthermore, these arenāt even likely lettersātheyāre AB Scholar and Minority likely letters (which are different then the Duke UpClose program).

Felizā¦Like selter01 said, no, minorities still have a great shot at Duke even if they didnāt receive a letter provided you are qualified

Good luck to everyone and congratulations on the AB scholar finalists! Awesome job

@TKsmom

Thank You! Yes i was extremely happy with the minority likely letter, but as if that wasnāt enough, I checked my email later today and found that I had been nominated for the AB Scholarship and admitted to Dukeās Class of 2014! This is all so surreal!

In regards to stats:

GPA: 3.9
Weighted 4.67

ACT: 32

Captain of Varsity basketball team
Class VP
Coke Scholar
President of several clubs
Extremely dedicated with community service both at the local and international level.
ect.

I think what really did it for me were my essays and my involvement in community service. A lot of people on this site always seem to put too much attention to test scores ectā¦but that is not necessarily everything.

In regards to acceptances:
Chapel Hill,Vanderbilt,BC, Tulane

tiktok is right, i realized that a lot of my friends that applied to duke who have higher grades than i do did not get the AB Scholarship invite. i felt like my essays made a big difference, and also, my grades increased over my high school years. i got a couple bās in freshman and sophomore years, but after that i got straight aās. so, colleges want to see people with self-improving motivation instead of painstaking perfection.

donāt stop believing

Do all of the emails usually come out at the same time or is there any chance I might hear from them within the next few days?

hoping to get the latino recruitment weekend letter in the mail

yo lo quiero tambi

I got the Latino Recruitment Week email as well! woooohooo! so excited to visit duke in april and see everyone else on campus.

My essays and my interview were what got me in though, thankfully Duke liked themā¦unlike Stanford unfortunately >.> lolā¦but who cares about that when youre going to be a blue devil yeeee

Congrads to all those who got recent letters from Duke. Invinceable - careful about putting down those with better grades than you. How do you know Duke didnāt pick perfectionists too? Humility is always admired.

I got an email yesterday(A.B. Duke semifinalist).

yo lo recibi!!! soy una bestia!!!

Hey vttxnh, I think you misunderstood me. It wouldnāt make much sense for me to talk condescendingly to those with better grades, Iām just saying to those people with not-as-good grades should not give up their hopes. Good grades are admirable, but I believe that the word āperfectionistā carries a negative connotation, and if I meant otherwise, I would have said āstraight-A studentsā or something to that extent. And quoting from the A.B. Scholarship website: āwe are looking for people rather than perfectionists and potential rather than performance.ā

Thanks for clearing things up invinceable. Good luck!

Got likely
NorCal represent

are you a minority or a reg likely?

i got a similar minority letter, but instead for black applicantsā¦idk if i can go to their weekend tho

Dear Prospective Blue Devil:

Greetings from Duke University! In recognition of your strong academic and extracurricular accomplishments, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Black Student Alliance are delighted to invite you to the Black Student Alliance Invitational (BSAI). This annual program for prospective Duke undergraduates will be held Thursday, March 25 to Sunday, March 28. We hope you will join us for a special weekend!

You might be wondering if you have been admitted to Duke. Inviting you to campus means that we think youāre a very strong candidate for admission. Very occasionally, something happens or we receive new information between the time we send our invitation and the time we finalize admissions decisions, and we find that we canāt admit someone weāve invited. But thatās very rare. Your chances of being admitted are excellent.

thats like half of it

Well, if you want to get into that arguementā¦ because Iām asian, I have higher standards than even if I were just white. And although Iāve lived in the states almost my entire life, Iām only a resident so Iām auto disqualified from many scholarship plus any national awards (research, math, scienceā¦). My URM friends (who are richer and go to the same schools) are getting awards for placing second in competitions that my other non-URM get first in, who donāt get any recognitionā¦
I agree. I donāt like affirmative action, but thatās just the way things go. You shouldnāt make excuses and say your children arenāt getting in just because of being white. There are many other qualifications
