Likelys usually come out in waves; I guess the first wave has now passed, but universities keep sending likelys out till March 15.

They are allowed to send LLs until March 15. That does not mean that they will. Like most discussion of Likely letters, this one quickly will devolve into a straw-grasping exercise. I wish Yale aspirants would be more productive with their time rather than hover over CC. What’s done is done. Don’t return until you have kids of your own. Enjoy your last semester – you deserve it. If you think being accepted to Yale makes you, then you’re incorrect.

I received a phone call from my regional admission officer on Wednesday, and my likely letter arrived yesterday!

@zeitgeist92

the fb group is called Yale College Class of 2016. I can send you the link if you still can’t find it. and you can definitely get the class tshirt as a likely (i got mine about 2 weeks ago)

So this was posted by a potential Yalie by “lyxdeslic” on the MIT board when he was sorely rejected today:
“Proof MIT has absolutely no idea what is doing”

"My point isn’t that I’m bitter, in fact I wouldn’t have gone even if I were accepted (got into Yale [likely], and still waiting on Princeton).

My point is that ironically the college which one would expect to find the most amount of fairness actually happens to be at the forefront of hidden agendas and affirmative action. They always tout the fact they don’t recruit athletes, legacies, etc… but their admissions practices are utter crap." along with a slew of additional comments by him.

His stats are on the MIT Official decisions board and commented "Honestly don’t care. Its MIT’s loss, not mine. Who knows they could have lost a potential billionaire and millions of dollars in donation. They can suck my likely letter to YALE. "

I truly hope Yale can determine who this white male from NY is as I’m sure they may want to think twice about that ‘likely letter’.

Anyone here with likely letters from Yale want to have this student as your classmate?

^ugh, that kind of attitude is a complete dealbreaker for me. Looks like lyxdeslic deserves a heaping slice of humble pie.

@2698036070922, when did you order your tshirt? I ordered mine February 18th, and it still hasn’t come in yet :/

Who knows if he/she even received a likely letter from Yale. I find it odd that this person never posted on the Yale board but went to great lengths on the MIT board to bash it.

The stats said lyxdeslic is a ‘he’ but it wouldn’t be surprising if perhaps MIT was his first choice. Getting a ‘likely letter’ from an Ivy could easily make him feel he deserved MIT but truly, many applicants get into ‘one’ of the HYPSM and only one. There are more applicants I think that do NOT get into ALL of these than those that are lucky enough to get into all of them. I think he’s feeling very bitter and not used to being ‘rejected’. I wouldn’t want to share the halls with him at Yale (if I’m lucky enough to get in). I’ve been admitted to Stanford and wasn’t surprised at all when I got waitlisted at MIT. I hope I may get into some other highly selective colleges but am happy to have Stanford and even the waitlist at MIT.

As wonderful a place is Yale, it’s still not immune from some real characters. I can recall some funny stories when some very pretentious folks were knocked down a few pegs. But if I were to post them, identities could be easily discovered – and that wouldn’t be cool. But in a mass of very savvy and cutting folks such as Yale collegians, people don’t get to get away with being d-bags for too long w/o being whittled down a bit or sometimes even a lot. A nice equilibrium occurs…

-@smilldeb That was the saddest rant by a rejected student that I have ever read. We have seen rejection up close and personal this college season, but my d sharpened her pencil and made all of her apps more outstanding. The results are coming back with more positive results. Rejection hurts for this caliber of student, but it will come to all one day. As T26E4 as suggested, someone will have to hone their whittle skills @ Yale.

I saw that post and was stunned that someone would have that reaction, especially when they already have a guarentee of acceptance at another amazing school. It was very obviously a case of sour grapes. Unfortunately, there are some people who feel entitled and who are not grateful for what they already have. I was waitlisted at MIT and yes, I was disappointed. But then I reminded myself how lucky I am to have been accepted to even one of the top schools. One thing I didn’t do was blame MIT’s admission office for choosing to accept applicants who they felt were a better fit for the school.

Agree. Applying to top schools means you know full well that you will be rejected at some, welcomed at others and in limbo with some. Rejection as hard as it is to deal with does have value as it will make you appreciate all the good things that do come eventually. Good luck to you with the rest of your college apps! You will no doubt have some great choices!

I know, I’ve never seen anyone post so negatively about a school after a rejection. Even the best and the brightest must learn how to accept rejection graciously. My son was waitlisted at MIT and was shocked when he read this students rants. Although the majority of students who apply to schools like the Ivies, MIT, Stanford are all outstanding and very ‘deserving’ on paper, most understand that the likelihood of acceptance to even just one of these schools is a ‘reach’ and to be lucky enough to be admitted to more than one is even more so. This boy needs to learn modesty. He clearly thinks too highly of himself and MIT probably made the right decision. Another rejection or two from Princeton (or maybe even Yale) may help him learn something about life.

“Anyone here with likely letters from Yale want to have this student as your classmate?”

This guy doesn’t…

And @ corona, mine hasn’t come in yet either

That’s a horrible attitude to have, i mean i might understand a sense of anger if he didn’t get in anywhere because it seems that he worked pretty hard and his stats are exceptional, but MIT applicants are usually exceptional and he already got into Yale basically…whats there to complain about ?

Perhaps mit was his dream school? Regardless, he acted way out if line. Plenty of people would be more than happy with a Yale likely.

I read this kid’s rant after the decisions came out from MIT. Really appalling attitude. My son was lucky enough to get into MIT and a likely from Yale. If he ends up at Yale, I hope there aren’t many kids like this one there. Perhaps Yale has someone who looks at CC like MIT does with MITChris?

I don’t believe for a second that this kid got a Yale likely. Given his arrogant online persona, if he had gotten a Yale likely he would have been flexing muscle all over CC, and certainly on the Yale board.

I don’t think so, only cause he was complaining about a rejection. I don’t think he would necessarily brag for an acceptance.

@ corona, yes i’ve received my class shirt! i ordered sometime early february if i remember correctly.

i received a likely call from my AdminO in january, but is it weird to not have gotten my likely letter? could it have been lost in the mail or never sent?
