i was super excited and thought this was a likely letter, but i just wanted to make sure

cornells college of arts and sciences sent me a letter notifying me that i was nominated as a tanner dean's scholar. they said that they'd definitely give me $600 and possibly $2500 more later in junior/senior year for research.
they invited me to their open house in april
and they told me they only selected 50 people...and are extremely impressed with my application..

they said "I'm writing to tell you that the selection committee was very impressed with your application and nominated you as a Pauline and Irving Tanner Dean's Scholar.."

and then they said "Although the Ivy League schools will not officially notify students about admissions until early April, it may help with your planning to know that we are very interested in you."

do you guys think it's a likely? im almost sure it is...but it seems too good to be true...

Sounds like a likely to me:) I got a letter from them guaranteeing me early acceptance on Wednesday (flying out there for diversity hosting weekend/cornell days in April!) but it’s not the same as yours. I’m actually kind of jealous of you. Jk but I think you are most likely in. I guess we’ll just have to wait until March 29 for the official letter! Congrats and good luck :)

@emimart, i applied to CAS too!!
i applied as a psych major. hopefully i’ll see you around-- either on campus next year or possibly next month
are you going to go to the general cornell days? or only the diversity weekend days?

@loltoasty, yeah the reason why i wasn’t sure was because i had always imagined likely letters to say something like “even though we can’t officially tell you, it’s very likely you’ll be admitted”. i guess they left it up to implication?

Well it depends on the school. My diversity weekend one flat out said I was going to be admitted. My Columbia LL said I was granted likely status and can expect to receive favorable word on the 29th. It all depends, I guess. haha

@acha2012 that’s awesome! i applied as a bio major. well i know for sure i’m going to diversity weekend days, but in mid april, they kind of overlap. so, i’m hoping I can go to both! how about you?

and @lolToasty, yeah the diversity weekend one made it clear I was going to be admitted, but @acha2012, you’re so lucky to be nominated as a scholar and get $!

congrats to you too batfan are you going to the tanner dean open house?

@emimart, the tanner dean open house days are april 19-20, so hopefully i’ll be going then but oddly enough they didn’t tell me when the CAS days are though…which i thought was kind of strange…when are they anyways? what if they end up not accepting me? im kind of worried about that!!
but thank you, you’re amazing yourself!
and i do count myself extremely lucky…there’s no other way to explain why i got this it was funny because this morning at breakfast i was talking to my dad and i was like “what if i get into nowhere?”. st. patrick’s day must truly be a lucky day :D

@acha2012, i don’t think cornell has released the CAS days, because I went on their website and i could only find the 2011 dates. And don’t worry about whether they’ll change their minds. Most likely letters end positively, and i don’t think Cornell would waste their time on you if they didn’t think you were qualified to be a tanner dean’s scholar! I’m still in shock after finding out the news 3 days ago. I got waitlisted at Cal Poly SLO, which was a target for me, last week, and I completely lost confidence in getting into any college! But I’m so humbled and honored, and I can’t wait for the future!

@emimart, okay that makes me feel better! thanks
and yeah i’m still trying to process it…it almost seems too good to be true…especially since i used to be that kid that almost failed middle school math. i did a complete 360 my freshman year…and it’s so surreal that this happened, especially considering how i used to be!
congrats once again to you!

@batfan, i think so! depending on how my schedule looks in april, i’ll either go to the CAS days or the tanner house days.

^Same here! at the beginning of 9th grade my parents seriously considered putting me in regents level geometry and not letting me take the accelerated math and science courses because I got 70s in middle school math, but now we both got into cornell! (i got in ED but withdrawed because of the financial aid). Weird how we “bloomed”
