wow, so far 16 Duke likelies on this thread. CC really does have the cream of the crop of the applicant pool.

I got an envelope from Duke today. I was so excited and couldn't open it for a few seconds. I screamed and shouted "Yes! I'm going to Duke!" Then I opened it, and read the letter. It stated that I'm a permanent resident and that I should call the admission office if the information is false. I was like "....oh." Does this indicate that the admission officers didn't finish reviewing my application? How does being a permanent resident affect my admission chance?

wow, that's mean.

Anyway, it probably means that you forgot to check the box on your app or something like that. Unless you're not a permenant resident...?

what?
what kind of a letter is that?
...(should i be getting one...)

AHHHHHHHHHH. sometimes i think some creepy gnome is stealing my mail.

but it's really just me, going insane.

I think Duke just wants to double check.

wow. i just got that same exact letter.
NGGGGGGGGGGG.
ow my eyeball hurts.

Darkamaranth88: What did you do to your eyeball?

haha i like how you guys say eyeball.

nothing. :]
i'm just being weird. i don't suppose anyone's seen that "my sassy girl" parody video? eyeball, not eyeballs. :p

i feel better now.

and, hairypotty:
i found that letter rather mean.
it was basically like "if you lied on your application about being a permanent resident...FESS UP NOW! or we'll find out when you enroll, and then we'll skin you ALIVE. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

somewhere along those lines. i don't see anyone else getting paranoid like that.

I know. That letter was so mean.

I got that letter yesturday. I hope it is a likely letter for permanent residents.

I think Duke is the only school that so far has sent a likely letter. What other top schools send this?

I know Harvard, Yale, UVA, Columbia and Dartmouth send likely letters.

cornell too

But many are only for recruited athletes.

Williams takes the prize. 80% of admits are either ED or likely-lettered. (so I've heard)

Woohoo! Likely letter out of the blue. I applied to Duke at short notice, and I didn't even get it in time for an interview! In any case, I'll gladly take the free trip, so I hope to see you guys there.

How strong are Duke applicants anyway? Are they more like Harvard level or Wash U level?

likelies are definitely of the Harvard level, I bet. :P
